As per a report byDeadline, Berry has now entered negotiations to join the project alongside Momoa, and while details of his role remain unknown at this time, the idea of Berry and Momoa working together is certainly an intriguing one.
Berry is a BAFTA and Critics’ Choice Award-nominated actor best known for his roles in the comedy series’What We Do in the Shadows, Toast of London, The IT Crowd, Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace,andThe Mighty Boosh. On the big screen, Berry is best recognized for roles in the likes ofThe SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Waterand its 2020 sequelThe SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run.
TheMinecraftmovie remains largely a mystery since being announced back in 2015.It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphiacreator Rob McElhenney was initially hired to direct the project, but sadly this “slowly died on the vine” according to reports.Napoleon Dynamitefilmmaker Jared Hess is now set to helm Minecraft, withDuneandZack Snyder’s Justice Leaguestar Jason Momoasigning on to lead the moviein April last year.
We know nothing about what the plot ofMinecraftwill involve, but it will somehow adapt the sandbox game developed by Mojang Studios for the big screen.Minecraftis now the best-selling video game in history, suggesting there will be a massive audience for whatever the movie turns out to be. Which is good, as theMinecraftmoviewas recently given a release dateof June 04, 2025.

Jason Momoa Is Currently Doing Battle With Vin Diesel & His Family in Fast X
Before leading the mysteriousMinecraftmovie, Jason Momoa has added his name to the ever-growingFast and Furiousroster. Though, rather than joining Vin Diesel and his family, Momoa is going up against themas the villain ofFast X. The tenth installment in theFast & Furioussaga,Fast Xlaunches the final chapters of one of cinema’s most storied and popular global franchises, and finds Momoa starring as Dante, the son ofFast Five’snefarious Brazilian drug kingpin Hernan Reyes. Thus, Dominic Toretto will confront the most lethal opponent they’ve ever faced, as Dante’s plot scatters Dom’s family from Los Angeles to the catacombs of Rome, from Brazil to London and from Portugal to Antarctica. But everything changes when Dom discovers that his own 8-year-old son is the ultimate target of Dante’s vengeance.
Fast Xis out now in theaters, and while reviews have been mixed, everyone is in agreement that Jason Momoais by far the best thingin the film.
As for Matt Berry, he too has plenty on his plate, starring alongside Stephen Fry, Marion Cotillard, and Daisy Ridley in the stop-motion animated biopicThe Inventorabout the life and times of Leonardo da Vinci.The Inventoris due to have its world premiere in competition at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on 12 June, 2023.
What We Do in the Shadowsmeanwhile is due to return for season five on July 13 on FX.
