Could Jim be returning forThe Officerevival at NBC? The network hasn’t called John Krasinski yet, but he’s ready to take the call and is totally willing for another go with the Dunder Mifflin gang. We reported in December that the network is in the early stages of putting together a revival season ofThe Office, which is expected to include some original cast members and some new ones. It’s unclear at this time if they want Krasinski back as Jim, but in a new interview, the actor-turned-director reveals that he’s more than happy to participate inThe Officerevival.
John Krasinski appeared onThe Ellen DeGeneres Showin order to promote his new directorial effort,A Quiet Place, which he also stars in alongside his real-life wife, Emily Blunt. During the interview, DeGeneres asked about theupcoming revivalofThe Officeand, even though he reveals that the network has not yet contacted him, he’s enthusiastic about the possibility of reuniting with his sitcom wife, Jenna Fischer, who played Pam on the original run of the series. Here’s what Krasinski had to say about it.
“I did hear [about ‘The Office’ revival], on the Internet. Guess who didn’t get a call? Me! What does that say? NBC is like, ‘You know who we didn’t like? Jim.’ That better not be true! Go to commercial…Are you kidding? I’d love to get thatgang back together.”
Details are scarce onThe Officerevival, but we do know that NBC is looking to cast a new boss ofDunder Mifflin, so it’s not likely that we’ll see Steve Carell back, at least not in any significant capacity. Also, given howThe Officeended, it seems tough to imagine how Jim and/or Pam could factor back in. They quit Dunder Mifflin and were getting ready to move so that Jim could pursue his career as a sports manager. But maybe they could come back in a smaller capacity? It’s tough to say, but if NBC can find a way to make it work, John Krasinski is clearly into the idea.
The other thing to note is that John Krasinski is quite busy these days. He’s starring inAmazon’s upcoming Jack Ryan TV seriesas the titular character. His obligations forA Quiet Placewill be over by the time the April release date rolls around. But if this goes well, he’s likely to get other offers to direct. So he may not have a ton of time to devote to a new season ofThe Office, since it’s said that NBC is hoping to include the revival in their 2018-2019 lineup. Though, that’s yet to be officially confirmed by the network.
Fans ofThe Officesurely like the idea of seeing more episodes of the sitcom, but the question also needs to be asked; is this even a good idea? NBC managed to wrap upThe Officequite nicely in 2013. It would be a shame to bring it back and soil the nice ending. But having Jim and some of the original characters back in a way that doesn’t feel forced could be helpful. Your move, NBC.
