Producer and frequent Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson collaboratorHiram Garciahas offered a hugely promising update for the highly anticipated sequel,Jumanji 4. Speaking withCollider, Garcia assured audiences that a furtherJumanjiadventure starring Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black is “definitely going to happen.” They just have to get a few other exciting projects out of the way first.

“Jumanji is definitely going to happen. Obviously Jake Kasdan is directing ‘Red One’ [upcoming Prime Video holiday movie], so right now he’s working on that. But we have a ton of Jumanji conversations. We actually have a great take on what we’re going to do for the next movie. So I know in talking with Jake, once he comes clear of Red One, that’s going to be his next priority for him and that’s something we definitely want to make.”

Jumanji The Next Level

Since reinventing the world ofJumanjiback in 2017’sJumanji: Welcome to the Jungleand its 2019 follow-upJumanji: The Next Level,Kevin HartandDwayne Johnson’scontinuation of the franchise has been hugely successful with both audiences and critics alike. Both outings have brought in box office earnings to the tune of almost a billion dollars each, so it makes sense that Garcia and Sony are eagerto bringJumanji 4to the big screen as soon as they can.

Hiram Garcia Has Teased the Epic Scope ofJumanji 4

Jumanji: The Next Levelwrapped things up with a tease of things to come, with a mid-credits scene hinting at the game world leaking into the real world, much like in the first Jumanji. While we do not know whether this will be the direction ofJumanji 4,Garcia has hinted at big things to come.

“We have a really big vision for that third Jumanji movie,” Garcia said earlier this year. “We just were discussing the pitch the other day. We’re bringing it into Sony shortly. But that movie’s going to happen. All of the actors are super busy. So the timing is going to work out great, but we have a really great pitch for the movie we’re about to bring into the studio, probably going to get a script written soon. Sometime after Red One, Jumanji’s going to be on deck once it’s ready to go, and we have a really big vision for that movie.”

Red One, meanwhile, will find Dwayne Johnson starring alongside Marvel star Chris Evans. Not much is known about the plot ofRed One, but the project has been described as “a globe-trotting, four-quadrant action-adventure comedy imagining a whole new universe to explore within the holiday genre.”

“Think MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET meets HOBBS & SHAW with a little bit of ITS A WONDERFUL LIFE sprinkled on top,” Johnson has said of the project. “I can’t begin to tell you how much FUN (and FILTHY) our 5 way text chain has already become. I think we’re gonna make a great holiday movie for you and your families around the world to enjoy!”

Red Oneis aiming to begin filming sometime this year and is expected to be released on Amazon Prime Video in time for the festive season during December 2023.
