Justice Leaguehas finally found its villain.Zack Snyderis currently very deep into production on the ensemble superhero movie, his follow-up toBatman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. We know that Warner Bros. is doing a lot to makeJustice Leaguea very different experience, and bounce back from the backlash. One thing that will change is the villain of the movie, who we already know is the alien Steppenwolf. Now, we finally learn who is playing him.
The Wrapis reporting thatGame of ThronesstarCiaran Hinds, who plays Mance Rayder in the show, has been tapped for Steppenwolf inJustice League. A few months ago we reported that anotherGame of ThronesstarCharles Dance, who played Tywin Lannister, was in talks for this exact same role. That turned out to not be true, but was at least close to the mark. Instead, it isCiaran Hindswho now has the job of trying to take down the various members of theJustice League.
In the comics, Steppenwolf was created by legendJack Kirbyand is a relative of the villain Darkseid, who was also teased inBatman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. He is an immortal with superhuman strength and a gifted military leader. He also survived an attack from Doomsday, the monster that kills Superman in the comics and the one that killed him at the end ofBatman V Superman.Ciaran Hindsdefinitely seems like a guy who can pull that kind of thing off, with the help of a ton of CGI. In case you missed it, here is the official synopsis for theJustice League movie.
“Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedentedleague of heroes: Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash-it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.”
The report claims thatCiaran Hindshas already wrapped the motion capture performance for his part as Steppenwolf inJustice league. The character will reportedly be a massive CGI alien, similar to how Thanos has been portrayed in the Marvel movies. Steppenwolf has already been teased in a deleted scene fromBatman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, which featured the character while Lex Luthor was still inside of the crashed Kryptonian ship where he conjured up Doomsday.
Ciaran Hindsis used to playing an unlikable character, as Mance Rayder definitely fits that description. But Steppenwolf is a whole new level of bad.Justice Leaguefeatures acastled byBen Affleckas Batman,Henry Cavillas Superman,Gal Gadotas Wonder Woman,Jason Momoaas Aquaman,Ezra Milleras The Flash,Ray Fisheras Cyborg, in addition to the newly cast Steppenwolf.Justice Leagueis set for release on June 19, 2025.
