Back in February, it was confirmed that production onJustice Leaguewill get started on April 11. While thissuperhero adventurehas been shooting for the past two weeks, we haven’t gotten any official details from Warner Bros. quite yet, such as a full cast list or a synopsis. Last month, we also reported that Oscar-winning actorJ.K. Simmonshas come aboard to playCommissioner GordoninJustice League Part 1, but it isn’t known how large his role will be, or whether or not he will be back forJustice League Part 2and other future DC Comics movies. The actor revealed in a new interview that his Commissioner Gordon role is quite small inJustice League Part 1, but he also teased the the character will be back in many more movies.
“I don’t get started on that until June, and my part in the first one is very small. I’m excited to be playing that iconic character in that iconic series. I’m going into a thing that hopefully will be 2, 3, 4, maybe more movies for me, and my part in the first one is really very small. But obviously, we know who the guy is. We know his whole backstory, based on the comic book. So, I’m just gonna finish doing my research on that. And probably not watch the other actors who have played the part, because that is kind of intimidating, honestly, and I don’t think I would find that to be productive. So, I’ll do my take.”
The actor revealed these details in a wide-ranging video interview withDP/30, although he wouldn’t reveal what other DC movies Commissioner Gordon may appear in. It’s worth noting that Warner Bros. is developing a stand aloneBatman movie, withBen Affleckreportedly starring as the Caped Crusader and directing, while co-writing the script withGeoff Johns. While we don’t know when this movie will start production, or when it will be released, it’s certainly possible that Gordon could show up in this movie.
Justice League Part 1is shooting at Leavesden studios in southeast England, and will utilize on-location shoots in London and Iceland. It was originally rumored thatJustice League Part 1andJustice League Part 2will be shot at the same time, but that report was recently debunked. Warner Bros. has slatedJustice League Part 1for release on July 30, 2025, withJustice League Part 2arriving in theaters on July 20, 2025. It isn’t known when shooting will commence onJustice League Part 2, but we’ll keep you posted with more details as soon as we have them.
Zack Snyderis directing bothJustice League Part 1andJustice League Part 2from scripts written byChris Terrio, who wrote the current blockbusterBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which has earned $319.5 million domestically and $851.6 million worldwide. Hopefully we’ll get more details aboutJustice League Part 1in the near future, as production continues in the U.K. Until then, check outJ.K. Simmons' video interview below.
