Keanu ReevesandSandra Bullockare reuniting for a new feature film, nearly two decades after they last starred in a movie together. The duo will be back in action, but this time, they’re mixing the thrill of Jan de Bont’s 1994 pulse-pounding classicSpeedwith a touch of romance, reigniting the chemistry they exuded on-screen throughout their (extremely) long-distance relationship in Alejandro Agresti’s 2006 love storyThe Lake House,to star in an as-yet-untitled “propulsive” romantic thriller currently in development at Amazon MGM Studios.

The wheels are in motion on the romantic thriller, but plot details are still under wraps for now. However, the script is in safe hands with Noah Oppenheim, who wrote the 2016 historical dramaJackieand recently co-createdNetflix’s political thrillerZero Day,starring Robert De Niro as former U.S. president George Mullen. Oppenheim is also producing the next Reeves and Bullock team-up with Sarah Bremner via Prologue Entertainment, as well as Bullock via Fortis Films, and Reeves, Mark Gordon and Bibby Dunn via The Mark Gordon Company.

5 Ways Speed 3 Can Be Saved From Box Office Failure

The third installment of the Speed franchise has been confirmed. Here’s how the film can be saved from box office failure.

Mark Gordon might be a familiar name to fans of Reeves and Bullock’s past collaborations, as he was the producer ofSpeed. It seems he was keen to reunite with the two actors since he brought the idea of the new project to them with Oppenheim. They then went on to develop the movie as a team. Both Reeves and Bullock have previouslyexpressed interest in revving up againfor anotherSpeedmovie, so Gordon’s involvement in Amazon MGM’s romantic thriller is likely to raise eyebrows among the more hopeful franchise followers.

Why ‘Speed 3’ With Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock Hasn’t Happened Yet

It has been more than 30 years sinceSpeedrolled into theaters and established itself as one of the best action movies to come out of the ’90s. Reeves and Bullock’s bus-set thriller was met with both critical acclaim and box office success upon its release. However, 1997’sSpeed 2: Cruise Controlwas largely considered one ofthe worst sequels of all time, with many lamenting Reeves' absence from the action. Fans have long hoped for theSpeedfranchise to add a redemptive entry with the original team, but it hasn’t happened as yet.

Reeves and Bullock, who haven’t shared the big-screen sinceThe Lake House, have openly stated their desire to work together again on another project. The chances of their next collaboration beingSpeed 3picked up pace last year when 20th Century Studios boss Steve Asbell stated that the studio would beinterested in reviving the franchise, but his conditions were clear: “It’s got to be a great idea and an idea that excites (Reeves and Bullock).”

One of the road bumps to gettingSpeed 3underway is believed to be scheduling, considering Reeves and Bullock are both in-demand actors that have multiple projects on the go at any one time. As of right now, Reeves is actively involved inJohn Wick 5,BRZRKR,andConstantine 2, among others, while Bullock isset to reprise her beloved role as Sally OwensinPractical Magic 2. However, it seems that Gordon has finally got the two of them in a room together, and the duo will be back on our screens again soon.
