Kraven the Hunteris Sony’s latest attempt at getting their extended Spider-Man-related universe off the ground after theVenomtrilogy, but it seems like it will be a standalone R-rated adventure. Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, the acclaimed actor moves from his short stint in the MCU as Quicksilver to play one of Spidey’s most iconic villains. Although the upcoming origin story is expected to take place within the Sony Spider-Man universe, it seemsKraven the Hunterwill not be tying itself closely to it.

According toCryptic HD Quality(a reputable source for theatrical details),Kraven the Hunterwill not be including a post-credits scene, nor will it include a Spider-Man reference. Despite being one of his greatest villains, the webbed hero won’t be mentioned in the film. Of course, this is not official information, and should be taken as unconfirmed reporting. However, it tracks with what Sony has been doing with their Marvel movies lately, especiallyVenom: The Last Dance. The Tom Hardy-led film included no Spider-Man reference and purposely reshot the previous post-credits scene to position it away from the MCU superhero.Kravenwill seemingly keep that trend going, this time forgoing the post-credits scene altogether.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson in Kraven the Hunter

Sony created their own Marvel universe to eventually have Tom Holland’sSpider-Man cross over with their villains, but every sign now points to the films standing on their own. As a diehard Spidey fan, it’s hard to imagine an entireKravenfilm without even so much as mentioning his greatest adversary. However, that does not mean the R-rated supervillain movie does warrant a chance to prove its worth.

Despite people enjoying theVenomfilms, the Sony Spider-Man Universe has not had much luck convincing audiences that these characters can survive on their own without the webbed hero.MorbiusandMadame Webare the most explicit examples of a studio misreading the interests of their fanbase in recent memory, with both struggling to turn a profit at the box office.Kraven the Hunterdirector J.C. Chandor is aware that people may not be in love with the recent films, buthe pleas fans to give his gorey R-rated romp a chance.

Kraven the Hunter Poster

“People have got to give us a chance and come out and support this film, and literally try to wash away some of the other stuff that’s happened. Give our film a chance. And I think they’ll realize that we’ve done everything we can to give them a pretty fun story. You’ll see when the movie’s over, there’s potential for a lot of things to happen. But my goal was to isolate our movie, protect it, and just tell a good damn story. And then we’ll have opportunities to do a lot of fun things."

James Bond Favorite Responds to Casting Rumors…By Using His Marvel Movie

Aaron Taylor-Johnson teases similarities between his Marvel role and 007.

Although the filmmaker saysKraven the Hunterwas made isolated from its sister projects, it’s also clear that it will leave the door open for more stories down the line. If the film is well-received and does succeed at the box office (likeVenom), sequels could surely see the villain hunt more Spider-Man-related Marvel characters. Taylor-Johnson is ripe for his own franchise at this point, andKraven could be his ticket to blockbuster stardom. As long as he doesn’t nabthe coveted James Bondrole, that is.

Kraven the Hunter is the fourth movie in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, set in the same Marvel continuity as Tom Hardy’s Venom and Jared Leto’s Morbius. Played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, the titular Kraven goes on a solo adventure as an anti-hero, this time independent of his comic book counterpart’s crusade to hunt down Peter Parker.
