20th Century Fox’sLoganis shaping up to be one of next year’s most highly-anticipated movies, with the studio releasing a slew of cryptic photos as of late including one that may have teased the fate ofPatrick Stewart’sProfessor X. It isn’t known when the next trailer will arrive, but it seems that the studio has no problem continuing to release new images, such as a new image that showsHugh Jackman’s Wolverine protecting the young mutant known as X-23. We also have another image that show the scars on Logan’s hands, a sign of his mutation wearing off inWolverine 3.
Empiredebuted this newWolevrine 3image, which is somewhat similar to the poster that arrived last week, where Logan is again seen carryingX-23to safety. The publication also got to speak with directorJames Mangold, who teased that they tried to scale back the CGI and special effects for this big screen adventure. Here’s what he had to say below.

“The goal was to make something human. We made an effort to scale back on the gloss and greenscreen.”
This falls in line with theWolverine 3 script pagethat the director released last month, where he stated that, “if you’re on the make for a hyper choreographed, gravity defying, city-block destroying CG f–kathon, this ain’t your movie.” It was also made crystal-clear in that image, which showcased the second page of the script, written byDavid James KellyandMichael Green, that this would be an R-rated affair. Here’s whatHugh Jackmanhad to say about this story, revealing that it explores Wolverine’s legacy.

“It’s essential you see this as the story of a man who is struggling with mortality and legacy, and whether the world has been better off with him or without him.”
The second photo was released throughHugh Jackman’s Twitter, which shows Logan’s scarred hands. This sequel is said to be partially based on the iconic Old Man Logan comics, where Logan loses his mutant abilities, and goes on a cross-country journey where he meets a number of Marvel Comics characters. This may also be the finalX-Menmovie forPatrick Stewartas Professor X, since he is said to be quite sick, and at times, he can’t even remember whoLoganis.
20th Century Fox is also developingThe New Mutants, along with another unspecifiedX-Menmovie that is reportedly set in the 1990s, according to producerSimon Kinberg. The producer wouldn’t confirm any further details, and it’s possible that he could be referring toThe New Mutantsproject as the one set in the 1990s, but it wasn’t confirmed whenThe New Mutantsis set. It will follow the same progression of the prequel trilogy, withX-Men: First Classset in the 1960s,X-Men: Days of Future Pastset in the 1970s andX-Men: Apocalypseset in the 1980s.
