As we look ahead to the future of Phase 3, new concept art images have surfaced, which tease thatAnt-Manalmost featured the presence of an iconic Marvel villain, whileCaptain America: Civil Waralmost showcased a secret message between Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Spider-Man (Tom Holland). TheAnt-Manconcept art surfaced on the official website for artistJosh Nizzi, which reveals that the villainousArnim Zola, played byToby Jones, appeared in the movie at one point.Toby Jonesmade his MCU debut as Arnim Zola in 2011’sCaptain America: The First Avenger, before returning in 2014’sCaptain America: The Winter Soldier. There had been rumors that Zola may have been a part of the movie’s prologue, set in 1989.
We saw inCaptain America: The Winter Soldierthat his consciousness had been uploaded to a massive computer, and it seems that if he would have surfaced inAnt-Man, he would have had a new robotic body upgrade. Still, these designs were never used, and we still haven’t seen the character surface sinceCaptain America: The Winter Soldier, with many expecting him to return inCaptain America: Civil War, although that didn’t happen.
The second piece of concept art is from thepost-credit sceneofCaptain America: Civil War, where Peter Parker is seen using his newSpider-Manbeacon in his room. This new image, which comes from the visual effects housePerception, reveals that there was actually a secret message, with Tony Stark asking Peter Parker to “swing by the Tower,” referring to Avengers Tower. The message continues, “Got some upgrades you should see.”
Tom Hollandhas teased that his newSpider-Mansuit inSpider-Man: Homecomingwill feature some upgrades from hisCaptain America: Civil Warsuit. No details about this new suit have been confirmed yet, but hopefully we’ll get to see Spidey and his new suit in action when the first trailer forSpider-Man: Homecomingarrives.
