Back in March,Guardians of the GalaxydirectorJames Gunnrevealed on his Facebook page that he wasn’t sure if he was going toComic-Con, sinceMarvelStudios won’t have a presence there this year. The news was never confirmed byMarvel, but today we have a new report thatMarvelStudios is not bringing any of their upcoming movies to Comic-Con 2015, marking the first time they haven’t had a presence there since 2011. The report also reveals that Warner Bros. does plan holding a “significant presentation” to showcaseBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, so it’s possible thatMarvelsimply didn’t want to be upstaged by this upcoming DC Comics adaptation.
It does make sense forMarvelto skip the con this year, since their next movieAnt-Manopens just one week later on July 17, and the studio is still in the midst of production onCaptain America: Civil War, so there wouldn’t be much of anything to show the fans, as far as new footage is concerned. They could have used the massive Hall H arena to announce new cast members for their sprawlingPhase Threeslate, but the studio reportedly was set to do that last year, until plans fell through at the 11th hour. There were reports that Marvel wanted to introduceJoaquin PhoenixasDoctor Strangelast year, but the actor had second thoughts and backed out at the last minute, causing the studio to rework their Comic-Con plans.
As for Warner Bros., the studio reportedly plans on featuring bothBatman v Superman: Dawn of JusticeandSuicide Squadat their presentation, and while it hasn’t been confirmed, it’s possible that they may bring A-list stars such asBen Affleck(Batman),Henry Cavill(Superman) andWill Smith(Deadshot) to the San Diego convention. It’s possible that Warner Bros. could also use the Hall H venue to introduce new cast members for their growing DC Cinematic universe, but we won’t know for sure until next month. Are you upset thatMarvelwon’t be present at San Diego Comic-Con this year?
