Matt Damonhas heaped praise on the nextJason Bournedirector Edward Berger…while remaining tight-lipped over whether he will return. During a recent appearance onThe Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Damon described Berger’s most recent movie, the Academy Award-winningAll Quiet on the Western Front, as “fantastic” and says he would “love to work with him.” All of which certainly suggests that Damon will return for one moreBourneadventure…

“There is a great director named Edward Berger. [‘All Quiet on the Western Front’] is a fantastic film, and he’s wonderful and he said he had an idea [for Bourne]. I would love to work with him, so he’s working on it. Look, I’m as anxious as you are to see if this thing [happens] — I hope it’s great and that we can do it.”

While certainly hinting that he will return should the nextBournemovie make it through the early development stages, Damon does also suggest that, eventually, someone else will need to take overthe reins of the action franchise.

“At a certain point somebody is going to need to take it over. I’m not getting any younger.”

Bourne Identity at 20: Why the Film Will Always Be an Action Classic

The Bourne Identity was a maverick in action filmmaking whose influence remains unparalleled today.

Damon has played the skilled assassin Jason Bourne since 2002’sThe Bourne Identity, which introduced audiences to the amnesiac spy with a talent for punching, kicking, hiding, and pretty much everything else one might need when being hunted by a clandestine organization.

The first movie, and its sequels,The Bourne SupremacyandThe Bourne Ultimatum, were each met with critical acclaim and have since had a huge impact on the action genre. The most recent outing with Damon, 2016’sJason Bourne, was sadly not as revered as its predecessors, but with Edward Berger at the helm, a further installment could breathe new life into the franchise.

The Next Jason Bourne Movie Is Now in Early Development

A fifthJason Bournemovie (not counting the spinoff attemptThe Bourne Legacy) led by Matt Damon wasannounced towards the end of last year, with reports emphasizing that the project is in “early development.” Insiders at the time revealed that Damon will “be approached first to return in the iconic role once a script is finished,” and that “everything has to be executed perfectly for Damon to even consider coming back to the franchise, and that starts with a great script and story.”

So, while Damon is hesitant to declare his return, it sounds like, should everything be to his liking, he will be back for another explosiveBourneouting.
