September signifies the end of the summer movie season, which typically brings an end to hugebox office grosses. Sony’s western remakeThe Magnificent Sevenwon easily last weekend, but it couldn’t repeat for a second weekend in a row, thanks to 20th Century Fox’sMiss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. The fantasy adaptation earned a respectable $28.5 million in its opening weekend.

Box Office Mojoreports thatMiss Peregrineearned a solid $8,092 per-screen average from 3,522 theaters. The film, based onRansom Riggs' novel, was produced with a $110 million budget, so it still has some work to do in order to earn a profit. Debuting in second place isDeepwater Horizon, which earned $20.6 million from 3,259 theaters for a decent $6,321 per-screen average. Last weekend’s winner,The Magnificent Seven, the Western remake starringDenzel WashingtonandChris Pratt, dropped to third place this weekend with $15.7 million, with the top 5 rounded out byStorkswith $13.8 million andSullywith $8.4 million.

He is an uncomplicated man stuck in a monotonous life. Day in and day out he drives an armored vehicle, transporting millions of other people’s money with no escape in sight.
