Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to get over this “peak trolling” as quickly as possible. The latest, and reportedly last,Mission: Impossiblemovie,Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, was released for free onto YouTube just a few days after landing on digital download. But, as is so often the case with the adventures ofTom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt, not everything is as it seems…

Theofficial X/Twitter accountforMission: Impossible – The Final Reckoningdropped a post teasing the free release of the action sequel, which it claimed it was forced to do afterthe AI enemy known as The Entity“compromised” the mission. “The mission was compromised,” the post read. “So we had one option left: release everything. Full movie on YouTube now,” followed by a link to a video on the official Paramount Movies YouTube page.

However, rather than beingpresented with the white-knuckle latest installmentas a free and easy viewing experience,Mission: Impossiblefans were instead offered a mission of their own, as the movie was released in its entirety…but in Morse code.

“A secure livestream of Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning full movie is running now. But the Entity has infiltrated every major streaming platform, so this livestream was compromised. The full script had to be transmitted in Morse Code to avoid detection. We need your help decoding it. Your mission begins now.”

Tom Cruise’s returning secret agent, Ethan Hunt, discovers that “Our lives are the sum of our choices” inMission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. The sequel, which hasbeen billed as the final outingin the long-running franchise, was hugely well-received by both critics and audiences alike, landing scores of 80% and 88%, respectively, on Rotten Tomatoes. WhileMovieWeb’s own Julian Romanfound some flaws, notably in the “cliché-ridden” approach, he concluded that The Final Reckoning still makes the perfect summer blockbuster.

“Tom Cruise’s eighth turn as Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning gives the ageless secret agent an invincible veneer with mind-blowing action scenes and epic set pieces that shred any suspension of disbelief. His previous heroics are peanuts compared to this nearly three-hour opus of cliché-ridden franchise retrospection, which is borderline comical in its onslaught of death-defying escapes. There’s a point where gravitas evaporates, but the production’s sheer magnitude cannot be denied — it ticks every box for a summer blockbuster.”
