One of the most highly-anticipatedNetflixaction sequels has sadly taken another step backwards, with the comic book movie follow-upThe Old Guard 2reportedly due to undergo further reshoots later this year. According toWorld of Reel, the action sequel, which will see Charlize Theron reprise the role of immortal warrior Andromache ‘Andy’ of Scythia,The Old Guard 2will have “more additional photography” in “early summer,” which suggests that we won’t be streaming the movie anytime soon.
Based on the graphic novel by writer Greg Rucka,The Old Guardwas released on Netflix in 2020 and follows a group of mercenaries who happen to be centuries-old immortals with the ability to heal themselves. The first outing centers on the group as they discover that someone has discovered their secret, forcing them to fight to protect their freedom.
Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, written by Greg Rucka, and starring Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Harry Melling, Veronica Ngo, and Chiwetel Ejiofor,The Old Guardproved to be a major hit for Netflix and was met with positive reviews (80% on Rotten Tomatoes), as well as being viewed by 72 million households in its first four weeks and thus making it one of thebiggest launches on the streamer.
