Bird Boxwas regarded as one of the best thrillers when it was released in 2018 on Netflix. The movie became an instant sensation, eventually becoming many people’s favorite due to its riveting plot and outstanding performances by the actors involved, particularly Sandra Bullock.
If you’re unfamiliar with the premise ofBird Box, the storytakes place in a post-apocalyptic worldwhere people go insane simply by gazing outdoors, which is the result of demonic creatures possessing people and committing horrible atrocities. The survivors who have figured out the problem have sealed up inside their homes, covering everything in the hopes that it will all pass away soon.

While it’s understandable that you’d be disappointed to learn that you can no longer experience the film for the first time, you should know that a spin-off known asBird Box Barcelonais currently in production and set to release very soon. It was announced in March 2021 thatBird Boxwould include a series of spin-offs, each with an overarching story, working as a shared universe. With that in mind, here is everything we know aboutBird Box Barcelona, one of the most anticipated Netflix films this year.
Bird Box Barcelona: The Plot
Recently, Netflix released a brief teaser announcing the release ofBird Box Barcelona, and here’s our take on it. The film is set in Europe, at about the same time as the original film, but this time in Barcelona, Spain. It follows Sebastian and his young daughter Anna as they struggle to navigate the city’s barren streets while avoiding the creatures responsible for the impending calamity.

As the situation deteriorates, Sebastian and Anna meet a group of survivors and establish an alliance with them, believing that their strength in numbers would come in handy, but if the first film taught us anything, it was not to trust anyone. While the threat is all around them, the father and daughter must deal with an even more sinister situation: determining who has already been possessed by the demonic creatures and escaping with their lives if things get out of hand.
While we elaborated on the plot based on the story, the official synopsis is as follows,as described by Netflix Tudum:

After a mysterious force decimates the global population by causing all who see it to take their own lives, Sebastián and his daughter, Anna, navigate the desolate streets of Barcelona. As they form an uneasy alliance with other survivors and make their way toward a safe haven, a threat looms that’s even more sinister than the unseen creatures.
The teaser is remarkably similar to the previous film, with the same chaos rising everywhere, making it an appropriate addition to theBird Boxuniverse. Fans of the original film will immediately recognize certain elements in the story that made it even more terrifying than it seems at first glance—a woman repeatedly banging her head into a glass window, a body dropping onto the car, and panicked citizens on the streets of Spain with no idea what’s going on. The film will certainly fill the void left by the original movie, and with many more spin-offs on the way, this is only the beginning.
