The gnarly horror film shocked audiences with how accurately it captured the humor, intense violence, and camp that made the original films cult classics, while appealing to modern movie audiences. The film even included a voice cameo from the original trilogy’s star, Bruce Campbell, hitting all the marks for fans of the original films.
Made on a meager budget of $15 million,Evil Dead Risemanaged to rake in a massive $146 million worldwide, catapulting the retro IP into modern success even more than previous installments.Evil Dead Risewas also a hit on streaming from the day it hit Netflix, which gave even further credence to the staying power of the absurd yet horrifying franchise. The 2023 horror hit has solidifiedEvil Deadas a modern moneymaker and crowd-pleaser, which will hopefully open doors for other daring horror directors to take a shot at the iconic franchise.
No one does horror comedy better than Raimi, and now he’s passing the baton to other horror creators to continue his legacy for excited fans. With two new films in the horror comedy franchise on the docket, it’s a great time to be anEvil Deadfan.
