The Flashis bringingMichael Keaton’s Batman back to the big screen, and a new synopsis featured on the McFarlane toy line has detailed more about howthe most popular Batmanis coming back after three decades away. Although Keaton’s return has not exactly been kept secret, but until now there have been very few details revealed as to how he crosses paths with Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen in the DC multiverse. The new details read:
“When Barry Allen arrives in an alternate 2013, he urgently seeks out the expertise of his friend and mentor Bruce Wayne – but the one he finds in the Multiverse is different on all fronts: older, long-retired from service as Gotham City’s protector and somehow even more hardened than the billionaire superhero Barry has grown to know. With a global threat on the horizon, Bruce Wayne must decide whether he can become Batman once more.”

The Flashwill not only feature Keaton’s Batman, but also Ben Affleck’s Dark Knight as well. While there were initially rumors thatthis movie would signal the endof the Batfleck and Keaton’s long-term return to the DCU, those plans all seemed to change with the announcement of the new DCU plans under James Gunn and Peter Safran. Although both Batmen will still appear inThe Flash, where they will be by the end of it is something that fans will have to wait until later in the year to find out.

The Flash Could Be the DCU’s Best Movie and Biggest Earner
There are very few certainties when it comes to making a big impact on the box office, something that Marvel Studios have learned over the last year with none of their “guaranteed blockbusters” managing to break through the $1 billion mark as was expected at the start of 2022. For DC, it has been an even rockier road as in 2022 their only live-action release wasBlack Adamand that did not exactly hit the mark as it was built up to.
However, 2023 is the big final run of the old DCEU, and the two big hitters are expected to be December’sAquaman and the Lost Kingdomand the summer release ofThe Flash. Both movies have been massively delayed by the Covid pandemic, as well as some personal issues around their stars, but theAquamansequel has not been getting the most positive whispers in the last few weeks. The Flashon the other hand has been calledthe best DCEU movie ever, and if that holds true, then it could be the redeeming film of the franchise’s old regime, which otherwise seems to be going out with a whimper rather than a bang.
With the pull of a multiverse spanning, game-changing storyline, the hyped up return of Keaton’s Batman, the introduction of Sasha Calle’s Supergirl, and the suddenly popular Ben Affleck’s Batman also in the mix,The Flashmay finally managed to get the DCEU some of the success it has been seeking for a long while. All questions will be answered whenThe Flashis released on June 11, 2025.
