Nick McGlashan, a fisherman who appeared frequently on the Discovery Channel seriesDeadliest Catch, passed away on Sunday in Nashville, Tennessee. At this time, a cause of death hasn’t been revealed as the case is under investigation, but the reality television star’s death was confirmed by the Davidson County Medical Examiner. He was just 33 years old.
“Ourdeepest sympathygoes out to Nick’s loved ones during this difficult time,” a Discovery Channel spokesperson said in a statement. “Nick came from a long line of crabbers and was known for his great depth of knowledge. He also had a sharp sense of humor even in the most difficult conditions. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.”

Working on theSummer Bayfishing vessel, McGlashan has appeared in 78 episodes ofDeadliest Catchbetween 2013 and 2020. He also appeared in several TV specials along with the behind-the-scenes seriesDeadliest Catch: The Bait. His biography provided by the series praises McGlashan for his “witty quips, working through the pain, and not stopping the job until it’s done.”
McGlashan has also struggled with alcohol and drug addiction at various points in his life. His issues made it to the screen when he was kicked off the boat in season 13 ofDeadliest Catchdue to these problems. He returned to the series after embracing a sober lifestyle and served as an inspiration for the recovery of others struggling with addiction. It’s not clear at this time if alcohol or drugs played a part in McGlashan’s death.

Appearing on the Discovery series more than a dozen times since 2012, Reyes had worked on the crabbing boatsSeabrookeandCape Caution. At the time, McGlashan posted a photo on Twitter remembering his late crewmate.

A seventh-generation fisherman, McGlashan was raised by a family of crabbers on the island of Akutan, Alaska. Following in his family’s footsteps, he began working on the Bering Sea at the age of 13. By 2011, he started working for Captain “Wild” Bill Wichrowski, who’s also featured onDeadliest Catch, quickly moving his way up the ranks on the boat.

His smile was contagious on the show and he was so talented in many things.”
