TheObi-Wan Kenobiseries has brought Deborah Chow on board to direct. Chow previously directed episodes of the upcomingStar Warslive-action seriesThe Mandalorian. It isn’t clear at this time if she will direct the entire series or if they will be choosing other directors for other episodes. In addition toThe Mandalorian, Chow has helmed and worked on episodes ofAmerican Gods,Better Call Saul,Lost in Space,Jessica Jones,Reign, andMr. Robot. It is also unclear how many episodes theObi-Wan Kenobiseries will consist of, though it is believed to either be six or eight, each one lasting one hour.

TheObi-Wan Kenobiseries was officially announced at this year’sD23 Expo. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy brought Ewan McGregor on stage to drop the news to an ecstatic crowd.Star Warsfans have waited years to see McGregor back as the iconic character after being teased by speculation and rumors, which had gotten louder and louder over the past few years.Ewan McGregoris also very happy to be back as the character since he can finally openly talk about it now. Details about the show are currently under wraps, but it will begin shooting early next year. Lucasfilm reportedly has all of the scripts written and ready to roll.

The Mandalorianis getting ready to premiere in November with the launch of theDisney+ streaming serviceandStar Warsfans are anxious to see what a live-action series will look and feel like. There are some who are skeptical about these new shows, but Disney and Lucasfilm obviously believe in them after pumping millions of dollars into making them. WithThe Rise of Skywalkerhitting theaters at the end of the year, it’s going to be a while before we end up seeing newStar Warsmaterial on the big screen.

TheObi-Wan Kenobiseries is the third live-action show that has been announced for the Disney+ streaming service. In addition toThe Mandalorian, fans can also look forward to theRogue Oneprequel series. However, having Ewan McGregor back might prove to be the biggest out of all three. Before the show idea was pitched, it was supposed to get made for the big screen with Stephen Daldry on board to direct. However, after theSolo: A Star Wars Storydebacle, Lucasfilm and Disney went back to the drawing board with their spin-off movies.

There currently is not an official premiere date for theObi-Wan Kenobiseries, though it’s safe to say that it will drop sometime in 2021. Lucasfilm definitely enjoys Deborah Chow’s work, which is why they brought her up fromThe Mandalorian. Perhaps this means we might get our first female director for aStar Warsbig screen project.
