Hugh Jackmanis a man who has a lot of fans, and his formerX-MencostarAnna Paquinis one of his biggest. In a recent interview for her new movieA Bit of Light, the actress reminisced about her time as Rogue in the originalX-Menmovies, and specifically how happy she was about how things worked out for Jackman.
Back in 2000, the MCU was not even a twinkle in the eyes of a young Kevin Feige, and the first big screen outing for one of Marvel’s best known groups happened in Bryan Singer’sX-Men. The success of the movie was instantaneous, and stars such as Halle Berry, James Marsden, and Jackman gained a huge boost to their careers. For Paquin, meeting Jackman and working with him was a great experience, and she believes that Jackman is someone who deserves the praise and good things that come to him. She toldPEOPLE Magazine:

“That was the role that really turned him into a humungous, gigantic movie star, and it couldn’t have happened to a more lovely guy. There are those people you meet and you think, ‘They couldn’t possibly be that nice,’ and then they are, and he’s exactly the same, as far as I can tell. He’s one of those people who’s a good role model for how to conduct yourself in this world. You can be all the big things and you can still be kind, be human, know what matters.”
Hugh Jackman Could Be About to Deliver His Crowning Achievement as Wolverine
Despitegiving Wolverine an almost perfect send off in 2017’sLogan, Jackman always seemed fated to bring back his clawed hero for one more outing thanks to Ryan Reynolds' success with Deadpool. He previously explained toDeadline:
“Well, I was 20 minutes into watching Deadpool and I had just announced, literally, a few weeks before that Logan was going to be my last, which I fully intended, and then I was like, ‘Uh-oh.’…I was just driving out to the beach. It was mid-August, I had a week off from the show (The Music Man on Broadway), my first week off in eight, nine months, 10 months. And it came to me like, ‘I really want to do that.’ And that was it.”

However, it would take several years for Wolverine’s return to be announced, much to the surprise and delight of fans. For Jackman though, despite knowing that he would end up doing it,his return inDeadpool & Wolverinewas all down to some hefty browbeating by Reynolds. Jackman recalled:

“It was so quick. And trust me, there’s not a morning I don’t wake up where Ryan Reynolds is outside my house with posters saying, ‘Please.’ He’s constantly asking me about it. And I was like, ‘Dude, I’m done. I’m done, I’m done, I’m done, I’m done, I’m done.’ So then when he rang me [back], he was like, ‘Are you serious?’ So yeah. I’m a terrible poker player. All this time I was saying I was done, I really meant it. But anyway, somewhere deep down, this idea was obviously lurking and brewing."
All of Fox’s X-Men movies are available to stream in Disney+, alongside Deadpool’s first two outings.
