One Piecefans are getting ready for the live-action adaptation by Netflix of their beloved series. The manga series first appeared on Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump in 1997. From then, it rapidly claimed its place as the best-selling manga in history with over 516 million copies in circulation.
One Pieceis going to be a bold odyssey for Netflix. It will take a lot to adapt the colossal tale into a live-action series. The streaming giant made this possible with a treasure chest of a production budget. The series is scheduled to air on August.

In an interview withCollider, actor Taz Skylar weighed anchor on his thought. He is the talent behind one of Straw Hat’ chef, Sanji. Skylar expressed his hopes for the series to be just long enough to reach a satisfying conclusion, where everyone involved can be proud of the anchor they’ve dropped. He shared:
“I’d like it to go for exactly as long as it takes to feel like it’s come to an ending that all of us are happy—and by us, I mean the greater “us” of us five and every single person involved. I want everybody to be proud of where we end up ending. I don’t want it to end short, and I don’t want it to run long. That’s my ideal.”
Notably, Iñaki Godoy, who steps into the boots of Luffy, gave a nod of agreement to Skylar’s sentiments.

One Piecestory follows Monkey D. Luffy as he sails the seven seas. He aims to become the King of Pirates along with his multifarious crew in search of the ultimate treasure. The franchise, with its sprawling narrative, has transcended the pages of the manga to an animated series, boasting over a whopping 1,000 episodes, not to mention an abundance of tie-in movies, video games, and light novels.
As the ship sets sail, it seems the cast and crew are keen on charting a course that doesn’t meander too far into uncharted waters but stays true to the heart of the treasure that isOne Piece. The compass appears to be set towards a balanced journey, neither cutting it too short to leave treasures unearthed, nor extending it too long to lose wind in the sails.
