Paddington in Peru, the third film in thePaddingtonseries due for release on February 14th, won’t be the last adventure for the lovable bear. As revealed in a new piece published byDeadline, StudioCanal has plans to continue to expand the world based on the series of popular children’s books written by Michael Bond. The franchise has foundplenty of successwith it’s first two movies, and with a whole host of positive reviews for the newest film, it’s no surprise that the studio is looking to continue Paddington’s story on the big screen, while also making the transition to other forms of media.

In this new interview with Studiocanal CEO Anna Marsh, the executive talked about the various strides that the production company and distributor has made this past year with its feature films. When thetopic of thePaddingtonfranchisewas brought up, Marsh dropped exciting new details about the future of the character in both films and television, saying:

Paddington 2

“There will be a fourth film. We’re thinking about the next movies and we’re working on a new TV series as well as the stage show musical with Sonia Friedman and Eliza Lumley.”

Interestingly enough, Marsh refers to the future ofPaddingtonas “movies”, indicating that more than just the fourth one is now in the works. Moreover, the news of a television series is certainly exciting, although whether it will be live-action or animated remains to be seen. This won’t be the bear’s first animated series, as the beloved bear has been brought to life in this manner before, in both 1989 and again in 2019’sThe Adventures of Paddington.

Paddingtonhas a bright future at Studiocanal. Should subsequent films in the series keep up a consistent level of quality on par with the first three movies, or even have Dougal Wilson or Paul King return to direct, it’s hard to imagine newPaddingtonfilms disappointing audiences. Hopefully, the upcomingstage show musicalwill also capture the magic of the feature films that helped to bring the polite bear a whole new level of relevance.
