Disneyhas secured five release dates spanning between 2017 and 2019 for new live-action fairy tale movies. Although we don’t know exactly which movies will open in these particular slots, two of them will beThe Jungle Book 2andMaleficent 2. There are a number of other projects in various stages of development at Disney, so we’ll have to wait and see which other family adventures claim these dates. For now, all we know are the dates themselves....

John Lasseter, the head of Pixar and the director ofToy Story, is taking a leave of absence from Disney following recentharassment allegationsthat have recently been made public. None of those who have accused Lasseter of harassment chose to be named, for fear of their careers. Lasseter has released a statement about his departure and, at least for now, he’s only planning to take a six-month leave of absence. Here’s what he had to say in his statement....

Disney had decided to halt production on its current and upcoming slate of live-action movies. This comes as the coronavirus outbreak worsens, with countries around the world taking progressively extreme measures to contain the disease. As a precaution, Disney is temporarily suspending filming on movies such asThe Little Mermaid remake,Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ringsand more. According to various reports, Disney has already stopped filming projects that are currently in production, such as Guillermo del Toro’sNightmare Alley, the filmmaker’s follow-up to the Oscar-winningThe Shape of Water, which is being produced through Searchlight Pictures, and Ridley Scott’sThe Last Duel, through 20th Century Studios, which stars Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Adam Driver....
