Patton Oswalt Is Returning to High School in New NBC Comedy

Comedy superstarsPatton OswaltandGlenn Howertonhave signed on to star in an untitled high school comedy pilot that is set up at NBC, through writerMike O’Brien(Saturday Night Live). NBC’sLate NighthostSeth Meyersis serving as an executive producer alongside the writer andSaturday Night LivecreatorLorne Michaels. The project was originally titledAP Bio, but the producers are currently seeking a new title for the pilot.

TV Linereports that the series centers onGlenn Howerton’s character Jack, described as a “hilariously cynical Ivy League professor” who takes a job teaching AP Biology after losing his dream job. This teacher begins to impose an unusual teaching style, using his students to help enact a plot of revenge against those who have wronged him throughout his life.Patton Oswaltwill be playing Jack’s boss Principal Durbin, who strives to be the “cool, chill” principal, even though that goes against his very nature.

Mike O’Brienis writing thepilot script, and he will also serve as an executive producer alongsideSeth MeyersandLorne Michaels,Mike ShoemakerandAndrew Singer. The show will be produced through the Universal TV studio, which will also produce alongsideLorne Michael’s company Broadway Video. If the show does make it to series, it could have some sort of an impact on FX’sIt’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, whichGlenn Howertonco-created, writes, produces and stars on.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphiahas already beenrenewedfor two more seasons on FXX, but one of the show’s stars,Kaitlin Olson, recently got her own broadcast comedy show as well with Fox’sThe Mick, which has already been picked up for a second season. WhileKaitlin Olsonis still expected to return forIt’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,Glenn Howerton’s involvement may be more limited, since he serves as not only a star, but also as a writer and producer. This new untitled project hasn’t been given a series order yet, but if it does get picked up, it could signal a minor shake-up of sorts atIt’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, but that’s only speculation at this point.

Patton Oswalthas served as the narrator for ABC’sThe Goldbergsthroughout it’s run, and he has recently appeared in guest-starring roles onNetflix’sSanta Clarita Diet,The Simpsons,Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,Mystery Science Theater 3000andAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D..
