A new entry in thePirates of the Caribbeanfranchise might still be a long way off, but the project has beengiven a positive update by producer Jerry Bruckheimer. Beginning in 2003 withThe Curse of the Black Pearl, thePirates of the Caribbeanseries has grossed more than $4 billion dollars over five films, with the latest entry,Dead Men Tell No Tales, released in 2017. WhilePirates of the Caribbean 6has yet to be given the official green light from Disney, producer Jerry Bruckheimer says it’s inevitable that the House of Mouse will return to the billion dollar franchisethat all began with a theme park attraction.
Speaking withComicBook.comwhile promoting the upcomingBeverly Hills Cop: Axel F, Bruckheimeroffered fans a positive update onPirates of the Caribbean 6, noting that it’s still in the scripting stage, but saying that he’s hopeful“it will come in a month or so.”Written by Jeff Nathanson, Bruckheimer also remains positive that Disney will like the finished screenplay enoughto move forward with the next entry in the series.

“We have a script that’s being written right now.Hopefully it’ll come in in a month or so, and it’ll be as good as I think it will be. Solet’s hope that Disney likes itand they give us an opportunity to make it.”
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
This will be the first of twoPirates of the Caribbeanmoviesthat are in the works, with another, more female-led entry in the franchise being madewith Margot Robbie attached to star. The plot of both films are being kept under wraps for now, with the next installmentsaid to be a reboot rather than a direct sequeltoDead Men Tell No Tales.
Will Johnny Depp Be in Pirates of the Caribbean 6?
As the face of thePirates of the Caribbeanfranchise since its inception in 2003, one would think thatJohnny Deppwouldreturn as Captain Jack Sparrow for a sixth outing, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. Following his legal troubles with Amber Heard, the 61-year-old actorwill not be involved in the latest project, which is saidto be a reboot of the franchisefeaturing a whole new crop of actors.
This allows – as Jerry Bruckheimerhas pointed out in the past– the series to move forwardwithout having to wait on the schedules of established starslike Depp, Orlando Bloom, and Keira Knightley to line up in order to shoot a new film. Bruckheimer called the new project“easier to put together.”

With that being said, the producer has also mentioned that if it were up to him,Johnny Depp would appear inPirates of the Caribbean 6, butthat decision lies with the higher-ups at Disneywho don’t appear too keen on having Depp reprise his role of Jack Sparrowgiven his past legal history. For now, Bruckheimer says,“we’ll see what happens.”
“If it was up to me, of course. I love having Depp… He’s a great actor and good friend… I’ve certainly spoken to him, but we’ll see what happens.”

Pirates of the Caribbean: Does the Franchise Really Need Johnny Depp?
Johnny Depp has become a staple in the Pirates of the Caribbean films. Do they still need him or can the franchise survive without his character?
For his part, Depp was asked by attorney Ben Rottenborn during his 2022 high profile trial with Amber Heard that if“Disney came to you with $300 million and a million alpacas, nothing on this earth would get you to go back and work with Disney on a Pirates of the Caribbean film? Correct?”To which Depp replied,“That is correct, Mr. Rottenborn.”

For now, fans can only guesswho will be inPirates of the Caribbean 6, with rumors already starting that it could seethe inclusion of Austin Butler. We’ll have more news on the nextPirates of the Caribbeanfilmas it becomes available.
