Fox announced during their TCA summer tour presentation that they are developing a new 10-episodePrison Breakevent series. It isn’t clear at this time when production will start, or when the series may air, but original series creatorPaul Scheuringis coming back to write the series. Original starsWentworth Miller(Michael Scofield) andDominic Purcell(Lincoln Burrows) are set to reprise their roles. Here’s what Fox chairman and CEO Dana Walden had to say about theevent seriesearlier today.
“I would describe it as a bit of a sequel, it picks up the characters several years after we left them in the last season of the show. The brothers will be back. Some of the iconic characters from that show will be back. It definitely will address some questions that were set up at the end of the series and for a new audience… It’ll start after where we left the Scofields in the final season.”
Prison Breakran for four seasons on Fox from 2005 to 2009. Fans may be wondering howWentworth Miller’s Michael Scofield will return, since the character died in the straight-to-video movie Prison Break: The Final Break. Dana Walden confirmed thatPaul Scheuring, who left theTV seriesafterSeason 2, pitched a viable explanation regarding these characters' fates. “I don’t think he’s going to completely ignore what happened in that episode, but what he pitched to us was a very logical and believable explanation in the world ofPrison Breakfor why are character’s alive and still moving around the world. Paul was not a part of the final seasons ofPrison Break. He had some other ideas about where these characters were headed, but it will connect to that episode. He’s not going to disregard it. You will get a satisfying answer to why these characters are still alive.”
Dana Walden also mentionedRobert Knepper’s character T-Bag by name, hinting that he may return for the series. He also mentioned the fans' “strong reaction” to the show bringingSarah Wayne Callies' Sara Tancredi back to life, after her decapitated head was shown in a box. “For Paul, this is an opportunity to tell a story about these characters that he created. I would say to those fans that this is the pure vision of the creator of the show and it’s going to take a detour a little bit from where we left off, but it should feel very satisfying and eventized. I think that fans will be excited about seeing these characters back together again. I’m very excited about T-Bag [Robert Knepper].”
Unfortunately, no specific plot details were revealed, and Dana Walden wouldn’t confirm whether or not this will feature an actualPrison Break, stating, “it’s just the title.” The network executive did add that he has faith Fox will issue a straight-to-series order oncePaul Scheuringhas mapped out the story. BothWentworth MillerandDominic Purcellreunited last year on The CW’sThe Flash, withWentworth MillerplayingCaptain ColdandDominic Purcellportraying his partner in crime, Heat Wave.
