Ryan Reynoldsmay have taken a little time off recently, but he has come back with a vengeance with his recentlyDeadpool 3announcement, roles in the upcomingRed Noticesequels at Netflix, and now he is teaming up withStrange Worldco-director Qui Nguyento develop a movie based onThe Society of Adventurers and Explorers. The SEA is a group of fictional characters that have featured among Disney theme parks for decades, and could well be another huge franchise to come from a Disney park attraction according toThe Hollywood Reporter.

The Society of Explorers and Adventurersis already being developed as a Disney+ series, but this new project will be separate from that, although both will center on the group who are stated to have been founded in 1538 in Porto Paradiso, Italy, and are made up of artists, scientists, and explorers who travel the world making discoveries and having adventures. Many of these people have been mentioned in various Disney park rides, including Harrison Hightower III in The Tower of Terror, Barnabas T. Bullion in Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and Dr Albert Falls inJungle Cruise, which itself has already kicked of its own film franchise starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt.

The new movie from Reynolds and Nguyen, which will be produced under Reynolds’ Maximum Effort banner, is potentially set to join the TV series being developed by Ron Moore as part of a shared universe. With movies based on the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Tower of Terror rides, along withtheJungle Cruisemovie from last year, it seems like Reynolds could be getting himself onto another big Disney franchise. If there is anyone likely to be able to pull in audiences to such a franchise, then Ryan Reynolds is certainly one of the best men for the job.

Disney Park Movie Franchises Have Created Huge Hits and Massive Misses

When it comes to some of the biggest movie franchises in the world, the Walt Disney Company boast two of the most successful in the world withStar Wars, theMarvel Cinematic Universe, Avatarand more. However, although Disney have had phenomenal success with thePirates of the Caribbeanmovies, andJungle Cruise’s 2021 debut was a reasonable hit considering the Covid pandemic, not every movie based on one ofthe House of Mouse’s popular theme park rideshas enjoyed the same kind of reaction.

Among the films that have been consigned to the bargain bin have beenCountry Bears, Mission to Mars, TomorrowlandandThe Haunted Mansion, although the latter of these is about to get another shot at glory soon. Whether the potential globe-trotting adventure ofThe Society of Explorers and Adventurerswould be enough to spark a new franchise as successful as thePiratessaga is something we will find out in time, but there is just as much of a chance that it could end up being another costly Disney bomb.
