One ofComic-Con’s biggest surprises was the first epicDeadpoolteaser trailer, which had fans on their feet screaming and cheering. It’s been talked about ever since. And from the looks of things, it’s going to be tough to follow up this standaloneX-Men spinoff. ButRyan Reynoldscertainly has plans for where he’d like to see Wade Wilson go next. While we haven’t heard too much about it yet, 20th Century Fox is prepping anX-Forcemovie. And while he’s already said anX-Men crossovermight not work, this could be the perfect place for The Merc with the Mouth. Though, he wouldn’t be the leader. He explains.
“I’d also love to see X-Force develop too and turn into something pretty cool. I always see Deadpool running against the grain for everything he does. He can’t possibly conform to any sort of leadership role. He always has to be the wild card. So you’d have to have someone like Cable running point on a team like X-Force. I’d love for that to be a next step that we take.”
There has been a lot of talk about anX-Men and Fantastic Four crossover. 20th Century Fox even helped push the point home last Saturday, when they brought all their Marvel superheroes on stage for one giant selfie inside Hall H. The apparent plan is to haveBryan SingerdirectThe Fantastic Four 2, which arrives June 2017. Then this will be followed by a movie that brings both new X-Men and Fantastic Four casts together. Of course, everyone who attendedComic-Con, that might be involved in such an endeavor, denied this was happening. Though, they did hint at the possibilities.
Fox has three X-Men movies coming out in 2016.Deadpoolarrives first, serving as an alternate Valentine’s Day movie for everyone tired of the traditional RomCom.X-Men: Apocalypsewill kick off the summer movie going season in May. And thenChanning Tatumwill resurrect the long dormant MutantGambitin October. This will be followed in 2017 byWolverine 3.Hugh Jackmanhas officially stated that this will be hislast appearance as Logan.
ButBryan Singerteased the possibility of a Wolverine cameo inX-Men: Apocalypse. And it’s long been thought that he will appear inDeadpool. But will there ever be a true Deadpool-Wolverine team-up movie? Probably not, especially since it already ‘kind of’ happened in 2009’sX-Men Origins: Wolverine.Ryan Reynoldshad this to say toComicBook.comabout the prospects of joiningHugh Jackmanon screen yet again.
“I mean who wouldn’t want to spend more time with Wolverine? Hugh and I have such history together. I can’t imagine it’d ever happen in a stand-alone film, but if there was the right place and right time - wouldn’t it be great?”
It’s clear that 20th Century Fox is planning to utilize their roster of Marvel characters, creating their own Marvel Cinematic Universe. That they are not ready to relinquish their mutants and superhero family any time soon. They already let the rights toDaredevillapse, which Marvel quickly snatched back up and turned into a hit TV series on Netflix. Fox isn’t about to let that happen again. So, what do you think?
