Netflix’s reputation for canceling fantasy shows after just one or two seasons has forcedShadow and Bonefans into drastic pre-emptive action to try and stop the series meeting the same fate as the likes ofLockwood & Co. Although many fans don’t start campaigning to save their favorite show until the ax falls, which is what happened withWarrior Nun,Shadow and Bonefans are determined to stop things getting to that stage.

Netflixare yet to reveal whether the series, based on the novels of Leigh Bardugo, will be renewed, but fans are making sure that they are doing their best to give the show a good shot. According toRolling Stone, this has included campaign by fans to get people watching the series repeatedly and organizing watch parties in order to get the viewer numbers high enough to ensure that season three goes ahead.

The campaign has also seen the series trending on social media on many occasions to potentially increase the visibility of the show and pull in more potential viewers. Do New Series Get A Fair Chance On Streaming Platforms?

The question of whether a show will be renewed is one that has been at the back of every fan’s mind at some point or another. Even popular series come to the end of their run, although in the last few years there seems to be more and more that are being canceled before they have even had a chance to build an audience. For every instantmega-hit likeWednesday, there are other shows that have not really hit their stride until after two or even three seasons.

While this kind of thing would have once been fine and the show would have been given a chance to breathe, the constant battle to keep costs down and viewership up had resulted in many TV adaptations of novels or much-loved book series being cut down for failing to instantly become the next big thing. In contrast to this, we are currently awaiting the arrival of a newHarry Potterreboot series that no one seems to want, and aTwilightseries that has also drawn a mixed reaction from fans.

For now, in the case ofShadow and Bone, there is no way of knowing ifa third season will be grantedor not. The second season opened with a reasonable 50.4 million hours watched in the first day, a figure that some shows would kill to see on their charts, but whether its subsequent performance will be sufficient to coax Netflix to continue the fantasy journey is yet to be seen. It is clear that if the streamer does decided to shut down the production, there is already a dedicated band of fans with hashtags at the ready.
