Growing up is tough, but the brand-new red band trailer from the upcomingcomedy,Snack Shack,reveals just how much fun it actually can be… especially over one crazy summer. Written and directed by the provocative auteur Adam Rehmeier (The Bunny Game, H.P. Lovecraft: Two Left Arms, Dinner in America), the coming-of-age story follows two buddies, who win a city council auction to run the Snack Shack at an outdoor swimming pool.Snack Shackis a nostalgic and hilarious journey for those who came of age before the era of cell phones. “Nebraska City, summer of 1991. Inseparable best friends AJ (Conor Sherry) and Moose (Gabriel LaBelle) seize the opportunity to run the local pool’s rundown snack shack after their plan to gamble on dog races and sell home-brewed beer goes down the drain. Dreaming of striking it rich, things take an unexpected turn when they meet summer visitor Brooke (Mika Abdalla), an effortlessly cool lifeguard who puts their big summer plans, and their friendship, at risk.”
Superhero fans will immediately recognize Abdalla from her recurring role onThe Flashas Tinya Wazzo, and she also starred inSex AppealandSWAT. David Costabile (Suits, Breaking Bad, Billions) and Gillian Vigman (Star Trek: Lower Decks,Step Brothers, The Hangover, The 40-Year-Old Virgin) portray the concerned parents who appear in the trailer. And Nick Robinson (Melissa & Joy, Kong: Skull Island&Everything, Everything), who is arguably most well-known for playing the titular role inLove, Simon, also stars.

Actor Gabriel LaBelle portrays Moose, who is one of the two best friends holding down theSnack Shackthis March. LaBelle is coming fresh off of his triumphant performance in Steven Spielberg’s Oscar-nominatedThe Fabelmans. Recently,LaBelle was cast in Jason Reitman’sSNL 1975project as Lorne Michaels. Conor Sherry (The Devil You Know, The Terminal List, Are You Afraid of the Dark?) plays A.J. and shares the responsibility of doling out concessions with Moose at the local swimming pool.

In September of 2022, it was revealed that LaBelle, Sherry and Abdalla had been hired to lead the coming-of-age story. But like so many other projects,Snack Shackundoubtedly felt the sting ofthe labor disputes(WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes) before they were resolved. But now, nearly 18 months after it was first announced,Snack Shackis finally heading to theaters. And Director Adam Rehmeier offered up some insight with regard to the nostalgia evoked bySnack Shack. Rehmeier said (perDeadline):
“Everyone has the summer that was crucial to their own coming-of-age story. This film explores a beautiful sweet spot, a period in time where kids were still very autonomous and free-range in the summer. I’m thrilled to be working with MRC, T-Street, and Paperclip, as well as the fantastic cast and crew, to bring this love letter to my hometown of Nebraska City to the world.”
