The chances of a thirdSpeedmovie happening have long seemed to be non-existent based on the second movie’s reviews and box office performance, but given the rise of legacy sequels in recent years, the prospect ofSpeed 3may be much more possible. The recent success of Keanu Reeves’sJohn Wick: Chapter 4, coupled with the return of Sandra Bullock, could potentially generate interest in another movie. With that said, there’s been no indication ofSpeed 3happening anytime soon.
For what it’s worth,SpeedwriterGraham Yosthas some ideas on whereSpeed 3could go. He spoke about the possibility with ComicBook.com, in which he brought up recent comments from Reeves thathe’d be interested in doingSpeed 3if there was a solid script. Yost goes on to reveal a pitch he has in mind forSpeed 3, which would put the story back onto the road, but with a slight difference compared to the original. As Yost puts it:

“I think what Keanu said was, ‘If the script was good enough,’ and that’s what it really comes down to. I mean, what do you do? My old joke forSpeed 3was, ‘This time, it’s 60,’ and that’s it. Just a little faster, but it’s all the same damn thing. And everyone involved is 60. It’s like when you seeJohn Wick; each one is the same movie basically, but they’re great. I enjoy them, they’re brutal.”

Speed 3? It Could Happen
Speeddirector Jan de Bont has also teased a desire to return to the director' chair for a threequel, wanting to bring back Reeves as well. Back in 2020, he toldColliderthat he’s not a big fan of sequels, but he was open to doingSpeed 3with the original cast. Like Reeves, however, he’d have to be sure the story for a third installment was strong enough to want to get involved with the potential film.
“It depends on how the story is, I think. Generally, I’m not a huge fan for sequel,” de Bont said, noting how vital it is for Reeves and Bullock to be involved. “If you have to, you have to have the cast to want to come back, too, because, otherwise, you have to tell a whole new movie. Because some of the first one was so much centered around him and about him, the awkwardness a little bit in him being a hero. And that awkwardness of being in a position to be a hero is … that worked really well for him but it doesn’t work well for other actors. And it’s really hard to find that same kind of feeling back.”
Nothing official is happening yet, but for theSpeedfans, keep those fingers crossed for the threequel actually happening sometime soon.
