WhenCaptain America: Civil Warhits theaters next May, the world will be introduced to a newSpider-Man, played by 19-year-oldTom Holland. We haven’t heard anything from the actor since he was cast as the newPeter Parkerin June, but he spoke toHey U Guysduring a red carpet premiere in London. When one interviewer noticed a gash on his nose, the actor revealed he had an accident on theCaptain America: Civil Warset, just before his last shot.
“No, no violence. It was my own mistake. I basically fell over and bashed my face in front of about two hundred crew members, so not my most heroic moment! It was luckily just before my last shot; they were like, ‘Roll cameras!’, I was getting into position, everything went wrong, and they still did the take anyway. It looks great and they’ll probably just CGI out all the blood, and yeah, I was very lucky.”
The British actor is best known for his role in the 2012 dramaThe Impossibleand 2013’sHow I Live Now. He will next be seen along side one of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes,Chris Hemsworth, inRon Howard’sIn the Heart of the Sea, arriving in theaters December 11. Ironically,Chris Hemsworthis one of the fewAvengerswho will not be seen inCaptain America: Civil War, butTom Hollandrevealed that the actor did have some advice for him, after he was cast asSpider-Man.
“Hemsworth is a good friend of mine. I’ve worked with him, and we’ve got a film that’s coming out in a couple of months, actually. He sent me a note, a congratulatory note, and also just a few words of advice, about, just remain cool. It’s all going to get pretty crazy, but just enjoy life while no one knows who you are. And do some travelling, he said go travelling.”
Tom Hollandwill be the third differentSpider-Manto hit the big screen in under 15 years, following in the footsteps ofTobey MaguireandAndrew Garfieldbefore him. One major difference in this version will be the lack of an origin story, since this incarnation will be already established asSpider-Manfrom the beginning. When asked if he plans on taking aspects from the previous versions of the iconic character,Tom Hollandhad this to say.
“I think it’s impossible not to. They were so great and such real and rich performances. There are obviously factors that I love and that I will continue and try and recreate, but I think the most important thing, at the moment, is making a film, which is obviously of the same character, but make a different and new and exciting movie.”
As of now,Tom Hollandis the only confirmed cast member for the newSpider-Man, withMarisa Tomeiin talks to play Aunt May.Jon Watts(Cop Car) is directing from a script byJohn Francis DaleyandJonathan M. Goldstein(Horrible Bosses,Vacation). It isn’t known when production will start at this time, but Sony and Marvel have already handed out a June 11, 2025 release date.
