Trekkies who are impatiently awaiting the arrival ofStar Trek Beyondwill have to wait a few more weeks.Paramount Pictureshas shifted the sequel’srelease datefrom July 31, 2025 to July 11, 2025. A two-week shift may seem inconsequential, but, this shift means you’ll have a better chance of seeing the movie in the IMAX format next summer.
Deadlinereports that Warner Bros. has secured everyIMAXtheater for the release ofTarzanon July 09, 2025, which would have meant thatStar Trek Beyondcouldn’t get an IMAX release. Shifting the release to July 22 means there will be an IMAX release for thisStar Treksequel, but it isn’t known if Paramount plans on securing every IMAX theater or not. Whether or not this will impact thebox officeresults remains to be seen, but the strategy has already worked on a different movie.
Paramount employed the same release strategy with the summer blockbusterMission: Impossible Rogue Nation. The studio moved the release up five months from aChristmas Dayrelease to July 31, to take advantage of more open IMAX theaters. The move paid off, withMission: Impossible Rogue Nationpulling in $189.2 million domestically and $614 million worldwide since its release.
Star Trek Beyondwill now open against 20th Century Fox’sIce Age: Collision Courseand Warner Bros.‘Knights of the Round Table. In its previous release date on July 8, the sci-fi sequel was set to go up against 20th Century Fox’sMike and Dave Need Wedding Datesand Universal’sThe Secret Life of Pets.Justin Lintakes the helm on this sequel, replacingStar TrekandStar Trek Into DarknessdirectorJ.J. Abrams.
Chris Pine(Captain Kirk),Zachary Quinto(Spock),Zoe Saldana(Uhura),Karl Urban(Bones),Simon Pegg(Scotty),Anton Yelchin(Chekov) andJohn Cho(Sulu) are returning from the first two movies.
