After shelling out billions of dollars to purchase bothMarvel StudiosandGeorge Lucas' LucasFilm, home to theStar Warsfranchise, the studio has wasted little time getting projects under both of these companies into development. Marvel is currently in production onCaptain America: Civil War, the first in their nine-movie Phase Three slate, and December’sStar Wars: The Force Awakenswill be the first of a new trilogy, plus new stand alone movies as well. With all of this content coming our way, Disney is reportedly considering creating TV networks for both theirMarvel StudiosandStar Warsbrands. Here’s what Disney CEOBob Igerhad to say during last week’s conference call with investors.
“We have said that with these channels and these brands – ESPN, ABC, Disney, maybe even down the road something related toStar Warsand Marvel – we do have an ability as a company to take product, specifically filmed entertainment, television, movies, directly to consumers.”

What exactly would air on these networks is uncertain, but it would surely give the company an outlet to airStar WarsorMarvel Studiosmovie marathons, along with a venue for new programming as well. It isn’t known ifBob Igeris referring to starting new cable networks devoted specifically toStar WarsandMarvel Studios, or if it would be a streaming service comparable to Playstation Network’s Vue or Sling TV. Of course, even if Disney does put forth plans for dedicatedStar WarsorMarvel StudiosTV channels, it likely won’t happen for quite some time, to give the studio ample time to build up a library of content.
