Star Warsis a long-running multimedia sci-fi franchise that has been in existence since 1977. The franchise features a number of films, TV shows, video games, and other merchandise that have even spawned the creation of the theme park Galaxy’s Edge. With such a vast array of content, there are dozens of characters for the audience to observe and root for as they see fit. Whether it’s wanting to see Darth Vader’s tyrannical force or Luke Skywalker at his strongest, everyStar Warsfan has something they wish to see. One character that many fans wish to see more of is Qui-Gon Jinn.
Qui-Gon Jinn, played by Liam NeesoninThe Phantom Menace,is best known for discovering Anakin Skywalker, the Chosen One, while also serving as Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Jedi Master. As a fan-favorite, many fans have felt the Qui-Gon is deserving of more canonical content revolving around him. Whether Disney will provide is a totally different story, but as we’ve seen with its Disney+ series, especiallyObi-Wan Kenobi, it’s evident that the studio is capable of telling stories set in between and before major productions. Here’s why we need aStar Warsprequel story about Qui-Gon Jinn.

It Would Reveal More of His Backstory
As of 2022, Qui-Gon’s only major appearance in theStar Warsfranchise is inThe Phantom Menace, in which he discovers Anakin as the Chosen One. While what we’ve seen of Qui-Gon shows us his character, we have been given very little information about the Jedi Master’s background. InObi-Wan Kenobi, we were given more information about Obi-Wan’s background and childhood before he entered the Jedi Order. A prequel story revolving around Qui-Gon Jinn would reveal more about his backstory, his character, and how he became a Jedi.

Qui-Gon is a Star Wars Fan-Favorite
Among the dozens ofcharacters within theStar Warsuniverse, Qui-Gon has remained prominent. Between his stronghold on his personal beliefs and his willingness to openly disagree with the Jedi Council, Qui-Gon Jinn is a fan-favorite character that fans always look forward to seeing. Creating a Qui-Gon prequel story would not only make plenty ofStar Warsfans happy, but it would reinforce his status as one of the most beloved characters in the franchise. Needless to say, many fans have felt somewhat robbed by not getting enough Qui-Gon content, and giving him his own show would resolve such an issue.

Deserving of More Screen Time
Neeson’s time as Qui-Gon was very short-lived as we only got to see him discover the chosen one before his death by Darth Maul. Qui-Gon was truly a one-of-a-kind character in theStar Warsuniverse. It’s odd that Qui-Gon is so beloved, and yet he is in only one of the feature films with small cameos in series' likeObi-Wan Kenobi. His short-lived time on-screen inThe Phantom Menacedid not do his character justice, giving the audience only a taste of his capabilities and his character. Giving Qui-Gon his own prequel series would give him more screen-time allowing us to see all the glorious aspects of his character.
It Would Reveal More About the Gray Jedi
While everyone knows about the good and the bad Jedi, only hardcoreStar Warsfans know about the often forgotten classification ofthe Gray Jedi. A gray Jedi can be described as those who were taught by the Jedi Council but operate independently of the council. While some gray Jedi can be rather misguided, they have not succumbed to the dark side, indeed, sometimes walk the line between the light and the dark. Qui-Gon Jinn isconsidered a gray Jedias he was known for defying the Jedi Council, preferring to go with his own instincts and what the Force tells him. While there are a number of othergray Jedi inStar Wars, a series revolving around Qui-Gon may give us more insight into how they become gray Jedi in the first place.
