An official timeline for the newStar Warsmedia initiativeThe High Republichas been released. It separates several different eras in theStar Warssaga. And it gives them each a new name. Perhaps the most interesting title arrives for the George Lucas directed trio of movies which launched in 1999 and ended in 2005.
TheStar Wars prequel trilogyis now officially calledFall of the Jedi. This includes the three above mentioned movies that track Anakin’s backstory, from being a slave in the Tatooine desert to his turn to the dark side as Sith Lord Darth Vader.Fall of the Jedialso includes the animated seriesThe Clone Wars. There are 6 eras contained within the new timeline, which kicks off withThe High Republic.
The High Republicis a new story initiative that spans several different medias, including books, comics and at least one upcoming TV show. None of the new projects contained withinThe High Republicare included on the timeline itself. The timeline arrives with the launch of Marvel Comics’The High Republic#1 and the newStar WarsnovelThe High Republic - Light of the Jedi. These publications are the first to be released, and predate the events ofThe Phantom Menaceby several decades.
The High RepublicandFall of the Jediare the first two eras represented on the new timeline. They are followed by the third era, which is now referred to asReign of the Empire. Under this header resides theupcoming animated series The Bad Batch, which follows a group of Clone Troopers in the aftermath ofThe Clone Wars. Also included in this era isSolo, the secondStar Wars Storyreleased which follows Han and Chewbacca in their early days.
The fourth era accounted for on the timeline is calledAge of Rebellion. included in this era is the secondStar Warsanimated seriesRebelsfollowed by the firstStar Wars Story,Rogue One. The original trilogy also falls under theAge of Rebellion, which includesA New Hope,The Empire Strikes BackandReturn of the Jedi.
The fifth era in the map is calledThe New Republicand only containsThe Mandalorian, the first-ever live-actionStar WarsTV show. But it can be safely assumed that recently announced Disney+ seriesAhsoka and Rangers of the New Republicare also part of this era.
The final era included in this new timeline is calledRise of the First Order.
