Hot on the heels of the news that a newTexas Chainsaw Massacremovie might be in the works with Glen Powell interested in starring, the director whose name was thrown about to lead the project has broken his silence about those rumors.JT Mollner’s sleeper hitStrange Darlingblew away audiences and critics last year, and since then, all eyes have been on what project he’ll direct next. According to him, however, it may not be TCM.
The report came by way of Deadline, which stated that Verve, the company that has held the rights to theTexas Chainsaw Massacresince 2017, is currently having meetings with producers and filmmakers to decide which direction to take the franchise next. Beginning in 1974 withTobe Hooper’s influential horror classic, there have been a total of nine films in the series thus far. The report stated that Mollner and producer Roy Lee were some of the interested parties, with Powell eager to read a script that Mollner had yet to put together. Following the Deadline piece last week, however, Mollner took to social media to simply post:

Don’t believe everything you read.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre Movies: How to Watch in Order of Release Date
Trying to tackle the messy Texas Chainsaw Massacre series of movies can be confusing. Here are all nine films listed in order of release.
Of course, that could mean any number of things. Does he mean the report is completely false, and he has no interest in making aTexas Chainsaw Massacrefilm? Or perhaps he does, and Powell is not really as eager to star as people say he is. Or perhaps Verve hasn’t even approached him at all at this point. After all, they did release a statement that eluded to the fact that no, they’re not holding meetings, but rather, people are approaching them:

“Verve has not officially submitted the property into any filmmakers, producers or buyers. Because this is such a hot and iconic horror property, packages are pre-emptively being brought to Verve.”
JT Moller’s Next Project Is a Stephen King Classic
As of right now, Mollner’s involvement in a newTexas Chainsaw Massacremovie is pure speculation, but one thing that is for sure is that his next film definitely has a lot of hype surrounding it. Directed by Franchise Lawrence (The Hunger Games), Mollner penned the script for the long-awaited adaptation of Stephen King’sThe Long Walk, which was shot last year and is currently in post-production.
Based on the 1979 novel of the same name,The Long Walkis set in a dystopian future that sees one hundred boys selected to enter an annual contest where the winner will be awarded whatever he wants for the rest of his life. The game is simple: maintain a steady walking pace of four miles per hour without stopping. Speakingwith MovieWeb last year, Mollner called it a “dream” to be able to write the script, as he’s been a lifelong King fan:

“I’m a massive Stephen King fan, so it was a dream job, and I’m an equally massive fan of [director] Francis Lawrence. So to write, adapt a book like that, and be able to adapt it for a director like that, and to be able to be on set and watch that director work, a guy with that kind of body of work… I’ve been pinching myself… Amazing guy, yeah. He said [Strange Darling] was an instant classic, I think, is what he said about our film.”
No release date has been set yet forThe Long Walk, but we’ll be sure to update things as news breaks. As forThe Texas Chainsaw Massacre, that remains up in the air at this point, but if you want to revisit the original classic, it’s available to stream on a number of platforms, including Peacock, Tubi, and Prime Video.
