James Gunnhas revealed more details about his upcomingSupermanreboot, including information about a specific scene. The DCU movie formerly known asSuperman: Legacyis now filming, with Gunn revealing to the Norwegian Media outletSvalbardpostenthat they have now filmed the first scenes from the Superman movie, which finds David Corenswet’s Man of Steel fleeing to his “ice fortress.”

“We have filmed the first scenes, which are when Superman flees to the ice fortress. We wanted a place that was beautiful and felt like being in the middle of the Arctic, so we looked at several places in the world. But there were many things that sold Svalbard for us over the other places. First, there is the natural beauty. But also the fact that you’ll find a varied landscape here that you won’t find anywhere else.”

A set photo from the sequence has also now been released (viaVG), and shows the snowy landscape that Gunn is talking about. All of which likely confirms that Superman will once again have his iconic Fortress of Solitude to escape to when things get tough, or when he simply needs some peace and quiet while carrying out his superhero duties. A home base for Superman, canonically, the Fortress of Solitude is often located one of the poles and has been depicted on screen several times before in the likes of Richard Donner’sSuperman: The Movie, the TV showSmallville, and Zack Snyder’sMan of Steel.

According to the report, production was shooting at this location for around a week, with onlookers attempting to take photos. Something which Gunn says he didn’t mind at all.

“We have had some people who have stood and watched. But that’s perfectly fine because being interested in just watching is something completely different than when you have people trying to sneak onto the set to take pictures that they can sell.”
