The 82ndGolden Globesaired on Sunday night, and, as always, there wereplenty of upsets and surprises. The award ceremony was hosted by Nikki Glaser, which meant the laughter was palpable among the star-studded audience. Full of glitz and glam, the night welcomed some of the biggest films of 2024, includingDune: Part Two,Wicked,A Complete Unknown,The Substance, and many others. Whether the films dominated at the box office or completely captivated critics, the nominations at this year’s Golden Globes were certainly award-worthy. Grossing over $714.4 million at the box office against a budget of $190 million, Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic,Dune: Part Two, wowed audiences and garnered a slew of positive reviews.

Wickedis still in theaters but has already brought in $681.2 million at the box office against a budget of $150 million. Needless to say, it’s likely those numbers will continue to rise after Sunday night’s win for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement. However, it’s not always about a film’s box office takeaways. Films likeThe Brutalist,Anora,September 5, andEmilie Pérezhaven’t smashed ticket sales but remain some of the best movies of 2024, a few of which have yet to be widely released. While each film and performance that was nominated undoubtedly deserved to be, it’s hard to overlook those who should have walked away with the win. There are bound to be upsets with every award ceremony, butone snub was particularly heartbreaking to see at this year’s Golden Globes.

Things have changed. Here are our current frontrunners.

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande were understandably nominated for their phenomenal performances inWicked, while Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley each stunned audiences with their performances inThe Substance. However, there were also plenty of nominated performances whose films didn’t snag a nomination for Best Picture, including Angelina Jolie inMaria, Nicole Kidman inBabygirl, Kate Winslet inLee, and Amy Adams inNightbitch, as well as Colman Domingo inSing Sing, Jesse Plemons inKinds of Kindness, Glen Powell inHit Man, and Sebastian Stan inA Different Man.

Dune: Part Twowas one of the biggest films of 2024 but wassurprisingly only nominated in two categories. Because it was released nearly a year ago, it unfortunately fell off the radar despite Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya’s epic performances. However, they were each nominated for their roles in other films. Chalamet was nominated for his role as Bob Dylan inA Complete Unknown, while Zendaya was nominated for her electric performance inChallengers.

‘Anora’ Was Completely Snubbed

Although nominated in five categories, including Best Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actress for Mikey Madison, and Best Actor for Yura Borisov,Anorawent home completely empty-handed. Hailed as one of thebest movies of the year, its snub at the Golden Globes is shocking. Across the board, the film captivated audiences and critics alike, which seemingly made it a shoo-in at the Golden Globes.

Arguably the most heartbreaking moment of the evening,Anoramight be able to snag future awards as the season of ceremonies continues. Seeing as the Golden Globes have never been a true indicator of how the award season will ultimately pan out,Anorastill has a chance to capture what it ultimately deserves.
