Warning! Contains SPOILERS forThe Acolyte,Season 1, Episode 3, “Destiny.”
Mother Aniseya created Osha and Mae inThe Acolyte? The revelation from “Destiny” is an intriguing one for sure, and theStar Warsseries' showrunnerLesyle Headlandteases viewers with an answer. As Supreme Chancellor Palpatine once told Anakin Skywalker, “The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural.” The future emperor was trying to seduce Skywalker by telling him the Sith legend surrounding Darth Plagueis, who could manipulate the midi-chlorians to create life.
So, does this tie in with Mother Aniseya (Jodie Turner-Smith) saying that she created the twins Osha and Mae (Amandla Stenberg)? The Acolyte’screator, Headland, addresses Aniseya’s intriguing comment, which seems to indicate the twins could have a similar origin to Anakin Skywalker. Headland said in an interview withEntertainment Weekly:

“If you keep watching the show, we do talk about that and explore that.I would say there isn’t one answer to it. Some characters believe certain things, and other characters believe other things in terms of what she means by that. So, you’re going to have to watch and decide which side of that argument you’re on.”

Osha & Mae’s Story Found Inspiration in The Clone Wars
The Acolyte’sthird episode“Destiny” honors theStar Warscanon. In fact, showrunner Leslye Headland looked toThe Clone Wars, particularly storylines involving the Nightsisters, aka the Witches of Dathomir, and Asajj Ventress, to help shape the series. Headland had already expressed her desire to explore the Sith more deeply on the Disney+ series. And now, she addresses “the power of one, the power of two, the power of many,” during the same sit-down:
“I was very inspired by the Nightsisters storyline and the Ventress storyline on The Clone Warswhen I was a budding writer. So, when I got the chance to make a show set in the Star Wars universe, it felt like,‘Well, of course I’m going to do my version of witches. I just am going to shoot my shot.’As the characters developed, it made a lot of sense that they would be at the center of a coven. That the girls would be almost revealed not as children, but as the legacy of what their mother started.”

Star Wars: The Acolyte Finale Air Date & Time
When will the highly anticipated Star Wars: The Acolyte finale premiere on Disney+?
Headland continued by saying in the interview with EW:
“The power of one, the power of two, the power of many.In our show, theJedi have the power of many.I think theirmother started as one, and the girls are two,and she wantsher legacy to be the power of many.
So, it was thought of as paying homage to The Clone Wars, but it eventually became the story of a mom and her children and the way that our parents have particular expectations for us.And if Star Wars is anything, it’s got a lot of parents and children and living up to or rejecting the legacy of those parents.”

Critics are enjoying the newStar Warsseries, judging fromThe Acolyte’s85% Rotten Tomatoes score. However, the fans continue to voice their displeasure online as the show’s RT audience score is a full 65 points lower at only 20%!
