If you thought season 2 ofThe Boyswas violent, just wait for season 3. When the satirical superhero series debuted on Amazon Prime Video in 2019, it began with a speedy superhero literally runningthrougha woman, setting the stage for the extreme bloody violence that would follow in later episodes. Season 2 had an ending that was particularly explosive, but it sounds like even that will be nothing compared to what’s ahead in the next season.
In a recent chat with Collider,Mother’s Milkactor Laz Alonso teased the bloody mayhem that cans can expect to see in season 3. While he can’t divulge any specific details, what the actor was able to reveal was that the amount of prop blood used for the next season is excessive. In fact, Alonso says the FX team has already used more than three times the amount of all the blood that we saw in season 2.
“I’ll put it to you this way. I was talking to the head makeup artist and she’s in charge of ordering the blood - that’s one of her many jobs. She told me that all of Season 2… When you talk about bulk, I don’t think they used over a gallon of blood in Season 2, believe it or not. Season 3, we’re already at three and a halfgallons of blood. So that should give you a little indication of where it’s going.”
Also in the interview, Alonso touched on the introduction ofSupernaturalstarJensen Acklesnext season. It has been previously reported that Ackles will play Soldier Boy, a Captain America parody character. Teasing that Soldier Boy might be the darkest Supe we’ve seen on the show yet, Alonso also said that Soldier Boy “allowed [showrunner Eric Kripke] to not only bring a character historically who’s pretty dark, but it also makes all of the other ensemble Supes darker as well.”
As Mother’s Milk, Alonso’s character is one of the titularBoys, avigilante group formed to keep corrupt superheroesin check. The group also includes Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid as Hughie Campbell, Tomer Capon as Frenchie, and Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko. The series also stars Antony Starr, Dominique McElligott, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Chace Crawford, Nathan Mitchell, and Aya Cash as superheroes, each with varying levels of conscience.
Meanwhile, a spinoff ofThe Boysis also in development. Focused on the G-Men from the original comic book series, a parody group of theX-Men, the series will follow superheroes in training as they learn to properly use their superpowers at a university for Supes. It’s not yet clear when the spinoff series will air, but the series has been described as “part college show, partHunger Games.” It seems more than likely that the series will also come with its fair share of bloody violence as well.
The Boysis currently in production. A release date hasn’t yet been set by Amazon, but season 3 is likely to arrive on Prime sometime this year. This news comes to us fromCollider.
