The cast of theRoseannespin-off,The Conners, is officially back to work for the first time without Roseanne Barr. To mark the occasion, a first-look photo of the cast has been released. The image features stars John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Michael Fishman, Lecy Goranson, Jayden Rey, Ames McNamara, and Emma Kenney. The cast is spotted around the table in the very familiar kitchen from theRoseanneseries. Goodman recently revealed thatThe Connerswill be taking place after the death of Roseanne Conner.
ABC has yet to addressthe death of Roseanne ConnerinThe Conners, but a new synopsis for the show states that the family is going to face their daily struggles in Lanford after a “sudden turn of events.” While nothing specific is mentioned about the storyline, it pretty much looks like it will be back to business as usual for the family, just without Roseanne Barr. Before the show was officially announced, it was heavily rumored thatThe Connerswas going to put the main focus on Sara Gilbert’s Darleen character.
ABC canceled the popularRoseannerevival series back in May following a racist tweet from Roseanne Barr, co-creator and star of the show. In a late-night tweet, which Barr later blamed on Ambien, she stated that former President Barack Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett was the child of the “Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes.” Barr later apologized for the tweet, but it was too late. ABC made the quick decision to cancel the show, which had just been renewed for a second season. The cast and crew were suddenly left without jobs.
Weeks after it was announced that ABC had canceled theRoseannerevival series, it was officially revealed that the family was going to stay together for a new show entitledThe Conners. Roseanne Barr gave her blessing and stated that she would not see any financial gain from the new spin-off. She was just happy to see that the cast and crew were able to get back to work in a timely manner. However, the show has yet to air, and it will be very interesting to see the fan reaction to the new series along with Barr’s.
The Connerswillpremiere on ABC on October 16th, in the same timeslot where theRoseannerevival series was set to air. The season will consist of 10 episodes, and could lead to more, depending on the reception of the show and how the cast feels about working without the series co-creator Roseanne Barr. Tom Werner will executive produce, along with Sara Gilbert, Bruce Helford, Dave Caplan, Bruce Rasmussen and Tony Hernandez. Bruce Helford, Caplan, and Rasmussen are also writers. The series is from Tom Werner and Werner Entertainment.
