The long-awaited reboot ofThe Crowfranchise has received a hugely promising update today, as the Bill Skarsgård-led movie has now been picked up by Lionsgate in a reported eight-figure deal with the studio planning to release the movie in 2024. Lionsgate has now purchased the domestic rights toThe Crowreboot, which will star It actor Bill Skarsgård as the titular avenging angel alongside singer-songwriter andHoneyboystar FKA Twigs.

The report comes viaDeadline, who have revealed that Lionsgate picked up the rights at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival market, with CAA Media Finance handling the deal. The pact was “finalized late Wednesday night,” according to the report, with the intention being to unleash the latest take onThe Crownext year.

Eric is then shot in the head, later dying in hospital. He is soon resurrected by a mysterious crow and seeks vengeance on the murderers, stalking and killing them while dealing with the loss of Shelly.

John Wick: Chapter 4starBill Skarsgårdwill lead the reboot as Eric, aka The Crow, while FKA Twigs will star as Shelly Webster, Eric’s ill-fated fiancée. The rest of the cast includesX-Men Origins: WolverineandAngel Has Fallenstar Danny Huston, as well as Laura Birn (Foundation), Sami Bouajila (A Son), Jordan Bolger (The Woman King), and Isabella Wei (1899).

The Crowreboot finds Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman, Ghost in the Shell) at the helm, working from a script that has been written by Academy Award nominee Zach Baylin (King Richard, Creed III) and Will Schneider.

The Crowis a franchise brimming with sequels, but the most acclaimed remains the original 1994 effort starring Brandon Lee. A reboot has been a long time coming, with the project first entering development back in 2008. Since then, the likes of Bradley Cooper, Luke Evans, and Jason Momoa have been tapped for the title role, with the lattereven showing off his costumeback in 2021.
