Whether theMarvel Cinematic Universeis going through a crisis is not yet certain, but if it is,The Marvelscould be clear evidence of it. The projections for the next film in the franchise do not look good, and place it even below two of the great DCEU flops of the last year.
It may have become normal for Warner Bros. Discovery’s superhero universe to suffer setbacks at the box office. For Marvel Studios, however, this is new territory. The sequel to 2019’sCaptain Marvel, which will also connect with Disney+ showsWandaVisionandMs. Marvel, will bring together three of the franchise’s great heroines, something that should attract a large number of moviegoers. However, the projections are not encouraging for the film directed by Nia DaCosta.

According toDeadline,The Marvelsis currently tracking a grossing of $70 million in its opening weekend, which would place it below one of the worst MCU performers,Eternals. But that’s not all, the outlet reports that the film’s pre-sale ticket numbers are below those of two ofDC’s biggest failuresof the last two years,Black AdamandThe Flash. The former, starring Dwayne Johnson, ultimately grossed about $67 million in its opening weekend, while Ezra Miller’s solo movie as Barry Allen only reached $55 million, meaningThe Marvelsshould just surpass them, according to projections.
The firstCaptain Marvelmovie was a huge hit, grossing a total of $1.1 million dollars at the box office with a budget of $152 million, and that despite being the subject of online hate campaigns again Brie Larson. The Marvelscurrently looks like it will struggle to make half of its predecessor’s total and comes with a hefty budget of just under $220 million.

MCU’s The Marvels: What We Hope To See In the Upcoming Film
Contrary to popular belief, The Marvels is much more than a superhero crossover. Here’s what we hope to see in the movie.
Could The Marvels Overtake Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania?
The Marvels
The Marvelswill be the third and final film that Marvel Studios will release this year, afterAnt-Man and the Wasp: QuantumaniaandGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. While it seems difficult for the movie starring Brie Larson to achieve a performance as good as James Gunn’s last adventure in the franchise, the disappointing box office ofAnt-Man 3could saveThe Marvelsfrom being the worst release of the year for the MCU.
Despite the fact that the film starring Paul Rudd grossed more than $100 million dollars in its opening weekend, which would be above the projections ofThe Marvels, as the weeks went by the movie’s gross dropped significantly, thanks in part to a lot of disappointment surrounding the much-hyped introduction of Kang the Conqueror. The film ended its theatrical run with $476 million, with a budget of $200 million.Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniais currently the MCU film with the worst score on Rotten Tomatoes with 46%, a reflection of its poor reception.

So, ifThe Marvelsmanages to win over critics and the audience, it could improve its projection numbers in the subseqeunt weeks on release, something similar towhat happened with Pixar’s lastest film,Elemental, which had a very low start, but ultimately became a hit.
The Marvels opens worldwide on November 10, and you may check out a teaser below.
