Netflix’sThe Sandmanis rounding out its cast for the upcoming second season, as nine new actors have joined the show. Based on the graphic novels by author Neil Gaiman,The Sandmanfollows Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams,as he fights to return his realm to its former glory after a century-long imprisonment, which saw new powerful foes vie for his throne. Tom Sturridge played Morpheus in Season 1 and is returning for the second season. Nearly two dozen new cast members are joining the hit show for its sophomore season, and the latest nine have just been announced.

PerRedanian Intelligence,Cobra Kaistar, Rose Bianco will portray Aunt Dora in Season 2. Joining her for the second season is Emily Yuen as Mai Lai, Ben Cutler as Luke Burns, Chris Barnes as Bruno, and Zahra Browne as Charlier Adler. The aforementioned characters are all minor players inThe Sandman’s larger story, but have a big impact in the “Season of Mists” storyline, which Season 2 will adapt.

Additionally, Amber Rose Revah is playing the Goddess Ishtar, Will Coban will portray Lord Azazel, Jake Fairbrother is playing the angel Ramiel, and Ruta Gedmintas will play Queen Titania. Umulisa Gahiga will be taking over as Queen Nada in Season 2, replacing Deborah Oyelade from Season 1. As well as the new cast members,it has also been confirmed that production has officially wrappedon Season 2 ofThe Sandman.

The pause in development comes amid the author being accused of sexual abuse by multiple women.

The author’s other ongoing adaptations, likeDead Boy Detectives, have already been canceled. Meanwhile,Season 3 ofGood Omenswas cut back to a single, feature-length episode. The future ofThe Sandmanis currently uncertain. Neil Gaiman has formally stepped away from the show following the allegations. However, Netflix might still view the series as too close to the author to continue for a third season.

It’s unfortunate because Neil Gaiman fans have been waiting for aSandmanadaptation for decades. Season 1 scored strong reviews from fans and critics, holding an 88% critics score, and an 81% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The “Season of the Mists” storyline sees Lucifer (Gwendoline Christie) depart from Hell andgift the key to Hell to Morpheus,causing many powerful deities to beg the Lord of Dreams for control.Season 2 has no official release date yet, but is expected to release sometime in 2025.
