The Summer I Turned Prettycenters on Belly Conklin (Lola Tung), who spends each Sommer at a beach house in Cousins Beach. The owner, Susannah Fisher, is the life-long best friend of Laurel, Belly’s mom, which also led Belly and her older brother, Steven, to form a close friendship with Susannah’s sons, Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) and Conrad (Christopher Briney).
As the youngest in the round, Belly always looked up to the Fisher boys, in particular, and it didn’t really help that Susannah always dreamed of Belly dating one of her sons. Who would have thought that both of them had feelings for her? And even worse, who would have thought that Belly also had feelings for both of the Fisher boys? Well, we all knew it, but that’s not the point.

Who Does Belly End Up with in ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ Books?
Yes, Belly has always been head over heels in love with Conrad, and the two of them sure sharedsome cute moments in the booksand series. From a young age, Conrad Fisher was always her number one, and she dreamed of being with him at some point. Lo and behold, her dreams came true, and they dove into the beginning of their relationship. With the boys’ mom losing her life to cancer, though, Conrad was understandably overwhelmed with everything and not in the right place for romance. Though heartbroken, Belly learned to move on, and discovered that she had feelings for Jeremiah, and vice versa.
After dating for two years, Belly found out that Jeremiah cheated on her with another girl, marking the beginning of the end of their relationship. The two briefly got engaged after making up, but called off their wedding as Jeremiah realized that Belly would always be in love with Conrad. This turn of events led her to get back together with Conrad, who she eventually ended up marrying, and they started their life together.
It makes sense, but… If this doesn’t qualify as character assassination, then what does? In all honesty, though, the show does a fantastic job of building Jeremiah’s character and every moment with him on-screen is a straight-up treat, which is a big reason whyThe Summer I Turned Prettyis one ofthe best book-to-screen adaptations. Jeremiah comes across as incredibly caring, loyal, and vulnerable. He’s got the full package. The way he is described in the novels is somewhat heartbreaking, particularly the way he ended up treating Belly. Keeping this in mind, it does make sense that Belly ends up with Conrad, but it certainly leaves a sour taste. However, the series might be able to mix it up a bit, and bring some justice to Jeremiah.

There’s nothing like a summer at Cousins. Fans everywhere have been hoping these plots and answers start to take shape in Season 3.
Who Will Belly End Up with in ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ Series?
Considering that Jenny Han also works as a show runner onThe Summer I Turned Pretty, it comes as no surprise that thePrime Video seriesactually stays very loyal to the source material. It is rather common to change quite a few things around when it comes to book adaptations, since the aim is to not only bring beloved characters and storylines to life, but to also still create suspense and surprise. As for the series, it definitely could be that it will stay true to the books, and pick up the same development of having Jeremiah cheat on Belly and portray her and Conrad as the endgame couple.
Would everyone be happy with this? Oh, clearly not. There is still hope though, because fans spotted Lola Tung and Gavin Casalagno filming scenes in Paris. This isn’t part of the books, and it was only briefly mentioned that she traveled to Spain. Their reunion in Paris and the shooting of (what could be) more than one scene, might indicate that the third season will slightly deviate from the source material. As a consequence, this could also mean that there is still hope that Belly might end up with Jeremiah, in order to stay true to how the two brothers actually treated Belly in the series.The Summer I Turned PrettySeason 3 has an exciting update, as the final season will be released in July 2025.
