Six years after Disney took us to the magical world of Underland fromLewis Carroll’s timeless tales, fans will get to go back this summer with theAlice in WonderlandsequelAlice Through the Looking Glass.Tim Burtondirected the original 2010 classic, which earned more than $1 billion worldwide at the box office and helped spawn Disney’s recent spate of live-action fairy tale revivals such asMaleficent,Cinderellaand the studio’s current blockbuster,The Jungle Book. While we get ready forAlice Through the Looking Glass’s release on May 27, Disney has released a new preview, with an introduction from producerTim Burton.
WhileTim Burtondidn’t return to direct this sequel, he did stay on as a producer, revealing in his introduction to this video, from theDisney Studios Twitterpage, that this fantasy adventure should be watched in the immersive IMAX format. This trailer reveals plenty of new footage, including where Alice Kingsleigh (Mia Wasikowska) has been since leaving Wonderland. This preview reveals that Alice has been locked up in a mental institution, suffering from an incurable case of “female dementia.” Thankfully, it doesn’t take long for Alice to make her escape and return to Wonderland, but it may be too late.

Before her time in the mental institution, Alice Kingsleigh has spent the past few years following in her father’s footsteps and sailing the high seas. Upon her return to London, she comes across a magical looking glass and returns to the fantastical realm ofUnderlandto visit her friends the White Rabbit, Absolem, the Cheshire Cat and the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp), who is not himself.
The Hatter has lost his Muchness, so Mirana (Hathaway) sends Alice on a quest to borrow theChronosphere, a metallic globe inside the chamber of the Grand Clock which powers all time. Returning to the past, she comes across friends - and enemies - at different points in their lives, and embarks on a perilous race to save the Hatter before time runs out.Anne HathawayandHelena Bonham Carterare also back as the White Queen and the Red Queen. They join the voices ofAlan Rickman(Blue Caterpillar),Stephen Fry(Cheshire Cat),Michael Sheen(White Rabbit) andTimothy Spall(Bayard). We are also introduced to several new characters in this exciting sequel, including Zanik Hightopp (Rhys Ifans), the Mad Hatter’s father and Time himself (Sacha Baron Cohen), a peculiar creature who is part human, part clock.
