Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, the eighth film in the long-running action franchise, has been heavily marketed asTom Cruise’s last time playing Ethan Hunt. Along with the obvious title, the marketing and trailers have all builtThe Final Reckoningup to be the last chapter in the nearly two-decade-long action franchise. While audiences are preparing to say goodbye to Ethan Hunt whenThe Final Reckoningreleases in theaters on May 21, Tom Cruise recently teased that he could be returning for another mission… should he choose to accept it.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight to promoteThe Final Reckoning, Tom Cruise clued fans in about his incredibly busy work schedule. The actor apparently lines up new movies quicker than he can run (and any Tom Cruise fan can tell you that the actor runs fast!). “I work seven days a week, my life has always been- I live on movie sets,” Cruise began. Tom Cruise’s work ethic comes as no surprise to fans, as the actor constantly pushes himself for each movie. But, Cruise then revealed that he has no less than four new movies in development, all withThe Final Reckoning’s director, Christopher McQuarrie. He said:

“Right now, I just finished another movie, I have four other movies [McQuarrie] and I are lining up. This is what we do.”
Action fans should be very excited that Cruise and McQuarrie are reteaming for four new movies. WhileCruise has always advocated for doing his own stunts, especially in theMission: Impossiblefranchise, Christopher McQuarrie has strongly championed that practice in his laterM:Ientries. Two of the four films have already been revealed, but the other two remain a mystery. Could McQuarrie and Tom Cruise return for one more adventure in theMission: Impossibleworld?

What Are Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie’s Mystery Films
As previously mentioned, two of the four movies have already been announced.Broadsword, co-written by McQuarrie and Erik Jendresen, takes Cruise back to World War II as a Marine Sergeant crashes in Nazi-occupied France and has to team up with a local woman to escape back to Allied territory. The film also stars Henry Cavill and Marion Cotillard.Cruise and McQuarrie are also working onThe Gauntlet.Cruise stars as Detective Shocklye, who must safely transport a witness to court to testify against a mobster, but the mobster’s goons and corrupt police officers stand in their way.The Gauntletalso stars Scarlett Johansson. Both films are currently in pre-production.
The other two films are anyone’s guess. Cruise is currently working on a sequel toEdge of Tomorrow(orLive, Die, Repeat, if you choose to be wrong), leading fans to speculate that the actor could star in more sequels to some of his best movies. We’ve got our fingers crossed for aLes Grossman return inTropic Thunder 2.The other two mystery movies likely won’t be revealed until the release ofThe GauntletandBroadsword.
