Viola Davisis about to be the next American president — at least on-screen. The venerable EGOT’ed actress, known for her work in films likeFences, The Woman King, and literally hundreds of other projects for big and small screens (to say nothing of her Broadway stagework), is set to star in directorPatricia Riggen’s new action thriller,G20, which has finally secured itself a release date. And it’s coming to audiences on Prime Video starting June 18, 2025.

In new, exclusive reporting fromVariety, the Davis-fronted film will also feature Anthony Anderson, Clark Gregg, and Antony Starr, the latter of whom is perhaps most well known for hisdevious and diabolical portrayalof superhero Homelander in Prime Video’s acclaimed and wildly unhinged series,The Boys.

The film stars Davis as United States president Danielle Sutton as she becomes the central target of an attack on the G20 world leaders summit. According to the logline, “after evading capture by the attackers, Sutton must outsmart the enemy to protect her family, defend her country, and safeguard world leaders.”

What Do We Know About ‘G20’ So Far?

Starring alongside Davis is an impressive cast, including Anthony Anderson as her husband, Derek Sutton, Marsai Martin as her daughter, Serena Sutton, Ramón Rodríguez as Agent Manny Ruiz, Douglas Hodge as Oliver Everett, Elizabeth Marvel as Joanna Worth, Sabrina Impacciatore as Elena Romano, Christopher Farrar as her son Demetrius Sutton, Clark Gregg as Vice President Harold Mosley, and Antony Starr as Rutledge.

In a statement, director Riggens had this to say about her film and its leading lady:

“This is Viola Davis as you’ve never seen her — heroically kicking tons of ass in a global thrill ride. With ‘G20,’ I wanted to make the kind of classic, edge-of-your-seat action film that I’ve always been such a fan of, but one that draws on the high stakes of our modern and technologically advanced world we live in. I hope to give audiences an experience that will captivate them from start to finish.”

As for her part in it, Davis was effusive about her time spent as POTUS,explaining to a crowdat the Red Sea Film Festival in Saudi Arabia in December that the part “was the sort of thing you’d imagine as a kid, just playing the most heroic character you could possibly play,” adding that Sutton “was a war hero and then won the election on a liberal ticket.” She went on to add that even though the film’s character had some parallels to the earlier part of the US presidential election cycle last year, that, “really it’s just meant to be a fun movie” more than anything else.
