Pop culture’s creepiest, kookiest family is getting reimagined once again for the Netflix seriesWednesday. Partly directed by Tim Burton, the show was created byMiles MillarandAlfred Goughwho also serve as showrunners. The series puts Wednesday Addams front and center with Jenna Ortega starring in the role, though the other members of the family are featured in supporting roles, such as Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, Luis Guzman as Gomez, and Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester.

Wednesdaymight be focusing mostly on Wednesday Addams, but if the series is a hit for Netflix, we could be seeing more of the other Addams' adventures. During an interview forThe Hollywood Reporter’s TV Top 5podcast this week, Millar and Gough touched on the possibility of branching out afterWednesdayis released. As the two explain, they craftedWednesdaywith the hope that some of its characters would be getting spinoff shows, which is partly why they brought in such big names to play the other Addams family members.

Wednesday Uncle Fester Fred Armisen

“We’ve definitely talked about it, and we talked about it with Netflix. And again, when you create a world like this, the intention is any one of these characters could be the lead in their own show. Certainly, it’s cast that way. You know, when you have Fred Armisen, when you have Catherine Zeta-Jones, when you have Luis Guzman. So that’s certainly something that we’ve discussed and would very much like in success to really kind of branch out this world beyond just Wednesday.”

Will Fester’s Quest Be a Wednesday Spinoff?

Before Uncle Fester’s casting was announced, there had been a lot of speculation over who’d play him, though the casting of Fred Armisen in the role has been very well-received. He appeared in a new trailer that also provided a first look at original Wednesday Addams actress from the live-action movies, Christina Ricci, in her special role in the series. Jenna Ortega admitted she was terrified to work with Ricci heading into the shoot.

“I felt like I was genuinely having a panic attack when I was told," Ricci told Empire Magazine. “I was terrified. She’s a really cool lady. I was fine meeting her, but the first time we did a scene together, and she had to see me done up the way she was done up 30 years ago, it was nerve-racking.”

The cast ofWednesdayalso features Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Hunter Doohan, Georgie Farmer, Moosa Mostafa, Emma Myers, Percy Hynes White, and Gwendoline Christie.

Wednesdayis set to premiere on Netflix on Jul 15, 2025.
